I wonder what kind of base stock this oil might have :

Fully Synthetic 5W-40

SL / CF
A3/B4
MB 229.1
VW 502
VW 505
RN 0700
RN 0710 ( Renault ??? )

TBN 10.6
1300ppm Zinc
1100ppm Phos
1100ppm Ca
1.1% Ash
VI = 170

Kv 40 = 81
Kv 100 = 13.4

TDS : https://www.commaoil.com/passenger-vehicles/products/view/230

What surprised me the most is the 1300ppm of Zinc it claims, that is the highest of any 5W-40 PCMO i have seen.

Since their technical bulletin seems to define group I-III as non-synthetic, my guess would be group IV. There's also reference to their recent upgrading of non-synthetic from group I to group II. Thought everyone did that years ago. But, then, I probably don't know what I'm talking about. Just wanted to give this thread one response.

229.1 approval is at least two generations out of date for an A3/B4 type oil. Plus it's missing the other typical A3/B4 approvals, A40 and LL-01.

In the UK Comma have a good name. But don't carry approvals as far as I can see.

My pre-bitog days I used to use their oils without any issues.

I wouldn't say they are typical, atleast most of the A3/B4 oils i see on the shelves are not A40 or LL-01 rated, only the really expensive ones.

Yeah...usually top end 5w40 synthetic oils here have those specs (like MB 229.5 & LL-01 & A40 combo)...
