Idling With a Diesel

I would imagine the extra wear they put on their engines doing this is significant.

Don't think fuel dilution is an issue, though. AFR at idle is very high on a diesel, even with EGR.
 
The recommended idle with the 550 Cummins with the regeneration filter is 900 rpm. If you idle below that, sometimes the engine computer kicks the cruise control off, then the engine will stall out 5 minutes later. That's on the high side. I would idle my Series 60 at around 700 and could stay warm except for the coldest nights.
