Hi guys,

I'm running Windows XP Home (SP2) and Office 2003 Pro. Each time I try to download a file (e.g., an Adobe update, Flash Player update), it downloads the .exe file with a .doc extension.

Obviously, the executable file was not intended to run as a Word document (nor does it). This is not limited to the types of files given above. It happens with ALL downloads. The downloading window does not allow me to choose where to save the file nor the type of file to save (.doc versus .pdf, etc).

Any ideas? Thanks!

Open up My computer, drill down into the C: drive at least one level. Go to the Tools menu, then choose File Types tab. Find the .DOC extension and inspect it to see how it's associated. My guess is that IE has hijacked the .DOC extension. You'll need to manually fix it. Inspect another extension, such as XLS on how to format the options for putting the DOC back where he belongs.

If all else fails I suppose you could manually rename the file from .doc to .exe
