So the situation is; the auger gearbox on my 2-stage Snow Blower appears to have white Lithium grease in it.
The problem with that thick grease in COLD temps are, once it's pushed out of the the way it doesn't really flow back to the important gear and worm-drive.
Sooooo, wondering if it would be a bad decision to add in some THICK gear oil such as 85/140???
Thanks for your feedback

wormdrives tend to be greased by very thick oils, 500cSt ish at 100F. wormdrives get HOT.

85/140 won't be thick enough and above that the oil must be yellow metal safe. Get special wormdrive oil.

OEMs usually consider these things because they are responsible for warranty claims. The grease may be thixotropic and temporarily reduce in viscosity when exposed to shear.

Seems to me they would have thought of that since its made to be used in the cold. Does the gearbox specify white lith?
The owners manual doesn't mention anything about gear-case lube as it just has a plastic plug on the top.
Turns out many Yard Machine Snow Blowers don't mention servicing 'that'.
The manual just covers oil viscosity requirement vs ambient temp's and spark plug gap.

EDIT... it appears 00 grease is what's recommended, just hoping that 00 grease is compatible with whatever is already in there, which looks to be white lithium grease.
This Yard Machine Snow Blower is old but still looks like new... just trying to keep that gear box happy and healthy.
