GC Newbie Observations

Like I said in an earlier post, this is my first fill with GC in one of my cars (2003 BMW X5).

Observations so far (purely subjective):

On cold start (
At idle: seems a little quiter

On shutdown: smooth as glass

Is it a placebo effect, or is just due to the 0 weight on startup, and the thicker viscosity on shutdown, and while running.

I'm gonna vote placebo effect. I've noticed no difference between Synthetic/Dino and Thick/Thin 30 weights in terms of sound/smoothness.

Not only that, but what a lot of people forget (or don't bother mentioning):
You're comparing 3K-10K oil (depending on your OCI) to fresh oil.

GC is probably more viscous at -20°F thru 50°F than BMW 5w30, if it's similar to other 5w30 synthetics. Only at really cold temps, less than -20°F does the 0w come into play.

wow, really must be placebo then. I was hoping magic elves came out and carried me away. Just kidding of course, I will try to remember to get a sample for UOA on this engine.

I'm with you on the observations! Placebo or not, my 2.4l Tacoma seems to run smoother with the GC mix I just put in (2 qts Green, 2.75 qts Gold). Quieter at idle than with M1 5w-30. I thought (briefly) about trying to take a before and after recording but it wouldn't be 100% due to the 5k on the M1.
