"European Union regulators told Reuters that they’ll soon start paying power companies not to generate electricity to create safeguards against green energy blackouts.

Reuters reports the European Commission will publish a draft law Wednesday to pay for extra power supply, which can be used during periods of peak demand to prop up green energy. Regulators told Reuters that the subsidies would be restricted mainly to additional green energy or extremely efficient natural gas plants.

“If the EU is serious about getting rid of market distortions that undermine reliable sources of generation, it should end all subsidies and priority access for intermittent sources such as wind and solar,” Travis Fisher, an economist at the free-market Institute for Energy Research, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Europe has poured $1.2 trillion into the green energy industry to fight global warming, but its carbon dixoide (CO2) emissions and power bills just keep rising. The German government estimates that it will spend over $1.1 trillion financially supporting wind power, even though building wind turbines hasn’t achieved the government’s goal of actually reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to slow global warming."

Germany has its own election in 2017, prepare for impact.

Nothing weird about it. You need to have the supply there in case it's needed. Same thing happens in the US. Companies have to pay the electric company even if they don't use the power because the power companies have to have the capacity available in case it's needed.

+1

Reminds me of paying to not plant crops - guy near here tried to send those checks back (he owns an oilfield service co) - tried to tell them he has built homes, buildings, ponds - never farmed a day in his life ... they sent the check back to him. Now the non farmer family gang head for the casino and blow the money ... (every year) ...

one of the regulators suggests (privately) that there may evolve a two tier system where people who pay more get electricity 24/7, and others suffer in the dark.

It's being poopoohed as nightmare fantasy, but Gary Allan (RIP) was one of the early adopters of accepting discounts for 15/60 (mins per hour) of air conditioning disconnect, and an hour/month of household blackouts to meet peak demand shedding....not much of a stretch that could be reversed to his world being the norm, and "soylent green" charge your Tesla type market.

Just insanely ridiculous. There must be common-ground somewhere in this global warming/global warming denier argument.

Neither of those are countries.
