So I have a question with these new "Cloud Based Anti Virus" programs like Panda, Webroot, etc.. When I am on my PC and hooked up to an internet connection I should have full protection from all the nasties out there.

But what happens when I don't have an internet connection when I'm on my PC and I plug in a USB drive, insert a DVD, CD or something else. Do I still have full protection since I don't have access to the cloud?

I think the answer is no. It may suit others to depend on the "cloud" for protection, but not me.

Agreed.

I use Webroot on my desktop, which I use almost exclusively for stuff that requires Internet access (the rest involves working with known files). On my laptop, which I carry around all the time, I have a traditional antivirus.

Depends on how heavily it leverages the cloud. That term is grossly (and often incorrectly) used.

I still stick with ESET NOD32 and common sense.
