I'm about to rebuild the eco junk wiring harness in my W124 but i have a question. What type of wire should i use? Some people seem to use 0.75mm wire, with a silicone based insulation but please chime in if you have any experience dealing with this kind of issue. I want it to last as long as possible. I did this repair on another car years ago but can't recall what type of wire i used.

GXL (SAE designation) or XLPE (UL designation) wire. Crosslinked polyethylene. It's very heat resistant and the standard for underhood wiring harnesses since at least the 80s.

How heat resistant is it? I took some and put it in the flame of a lighter for several seconds. Wiped the soot off and NO damage to the insulation.

EDIT: Silicone insulation, while quite heat resistant, isn't very abrasion resistant and is actually pretty fragile.

When I have similar questions, my first go-to is a McMaster-Carr catalog.
