Most recent UOA for my 2015 Ford Fusion with the 2.0L Ecoboost.
This run had 12,575mi, 333 hours, and 25.7 average mpg.
Oil (amsoil sso 0w-40, SN+) and filter (OG Fram Ultra 3614) installed 8/14/22 and drained 6/2/23.
This was the winter run so lots of remote starting and warming up, and cold temperatures, a few days outside below 0f.
Driven around 65 miles a day with 25 of those at 77mph. I'd say aggressively driven. Planned to change at 10K but life happened...

My thoughts:
Wear rates are not significantly different than using 5w-30 for 6-7K on a per 1K basis, although this is not apples to apples as the 0w-40 had almost double the miles. The 0w-40 viscosity held up well compared to what I've seen with the 5w-30. I'm not sure I'd trust any 5w-30 to go 12.5K in this engine, I'd cap it at 7K if using 5w-30. I got this Amsoil SSO 0w-40 for $5/qt and have a few OCIs of it left.

I'm planning on 10K OCIs with 0w-40 moving forward without any worry. 0w-40 put back in with another OG Fram Ultra 3614.

6 qt capacity.. nice! Add packs were fairly similar & I always thought of a thick 5w-30=0-40. We do see that the 30 was a lower viscosity here though. The iron wear rate per 1k on the current run using the previous run rate would've put this 12k run at 34.1402714932 but yours turned up 33 so yes very close but it's still lower & that is always nice to see. Everything looks well in order & I believe you have a good schedule on this fusion planned out wisely. I'm just now starting to do annual oil changes this year myself.

Thanks for the data. The one thing that jumps out at me is your 2.0 Eco makes nearly triple the iron per 1k miles that the 2.5 in my 11 Fusion did.

This is exactly why dnewton3 and the other unemotional people who look at UOAs and talk people off the ledge matter. On its face, I may go “33 ppm Fe? Wha?!?!?!?” But you’ve got several UOAs with “roughly” equal ppm/1k, so the tone instantly changes. Without context or reference, this would likely be a “holy 💩!” moment.

Instead, it confirms that you’re likely fine at this mileage & usage, and if you’re really daring, could likely go even a little bit (but not a ton) further… 😉

The 2.0L ecoboost in our edge makes 1/3 less iron too. Although, that’s a completely different 2.0L ecoboost (twin scroll version). Just goes to show that while the engine might be the “same” they all have different personalities! Also why I started with around 3 uoa as a baseline before I started extending.

Part of me wants to try 15k next time but not sure I’m ready for that yet lol.

I have a 2020 Fusion with the 2.0 twin-scroll turbo. I'm really curious as to why you picked 0W40 after running 5W30 for so long? Currently, I'm open to using other grades of oil and would like to hear from other Fusion owners with similar motors.

I only ran 5w-30 for around 15,000 miles, I bought the car used. I got a good deal on the 0w-40 and have a stock of it. 5w-30 seems to shear ( and fuel dilution) into 20w. and I wanted to to extend my ocis comfortably. 0w-40 can shear, handle some fuel dilution and still maintain a 30w viscosity.

Will it make a difference in the long run? I dunno. My engine seems to wear the same whether 5w-30 or 0w-40.
