What effect does Ethanol have on small 2 cycle engines?

The gasoline molecule does not have an oxygen molecule. Oxygenated fuels like those that contain ethanol tend to attract water. With that in mind, just simple well known practices like always using fresh fuel and basic maintenance should negate this problem. California, and other parts of the...

Mobil MX2T Gold Color versus Racing 2T Red Dye

I kinda think that the red color is "ignorant", as the resulting pink color of the mixed ratio cannot be seen through the red plastic Blitz cans millions of people use here in the USA. But hey, what do I know? I did check out the artsy/craftsy section at Wally World, and the ladies suggested...

    BFG All Terrain Radials

BFG A/T K/O's are "supposed to last" 15% longer than the previous A/T's according to the company propoganda. That being said, I am on my second set of A/T's in my older 1984 Toyota pickup. It has the leaf-spring solid-axle offroaders go gaa-gaa over...whatever! These tires are great for my...

Your thoughts, please, on running platinum spark plugs...

Regardless of how long they last, I would NEVER leave a sparkplug wrenched into an aluminum headed vehicle for 100,000 miles! To me, that is a sure way to tear out the threads upon plug removal. Imagine THAT repair cost! I used Bosch's regular Platinums once in my beater 115hp 1990 Camry...

    Glock cleaning solution

Be careful with the brake cleaner. Brake cleaner smells the same as Birchwood Casey's Gun Scrub, but can eat plastic pistol grips as my friend with a small Beretta 21 found out.

    Glock cleaning solution

I spray clean my Glock 17 with the common Birchwood/Casey cleaner from WalMart. It DRIES! I would never use a lube or cleaner with too much "creep" as it can kill a primer, and lead to dead ammo. I use RIG +P grease on the slide.

Mobil MX2T Gold Color versus Racing 2T Red Dye

As TLAR640 mentioned, I am also underwhelmed at the color of 2T. It makes a vaguely pinkish mix, and the fuel mix is hard to see the fuel level in the tanks of my yard equipment. Why would Mobil even bother dyeing an oil the same color as Dexron ATF anyway? I think mtgrs737 has a good idea.

    Weed Eater String problems

You sound like a fisherman to me! Fishing monofilament casts much farther after a good soaking. The softness/suppleness returns when soaked in water. The good thing is long casts from shore are not particularly necessary in the morning when the fish are close to the bank. As the days brightens...

First gas weed trimmer, what a piece of junk!

Yup, my trusy Ryobi string trimmer has been the only piece of 2 stroke gear that ran like top right out of the box. My Craftsman blower (Poulan re-badge) needed both of the screws turned out all the way (actually i/8 turn richer as limited by the plastic lmiting caps) before it would run. I was...

First gas weed trimmer, what a piece of junk!

I got a Ryobi 725R free from my dad 5 years ago. It has been a very good unit! It starts consistently, is good enough for my residential use...and the Quick-Link reciprocating tree limb attachment is impressive. The Sawzall style blades that come with it are of a very good long-lasting alloy...

    Goodyear Viva 2

I have a set of Viva 2s on my beater Camry. I have run them for over year, and and I must say that I am very satisfied. This week, I had someone pull out in front of me. The panic stop left 20 foot skid marks. I was braking downhill at the time. For what its worth, the sound of the skid was...

Am I using the wrong two-stroke oil?

UPDATE: I went though some of the info on this portion of the board, and just picked up a quart of Mobil1 racing 2T at Kragen on Bear Valley. It was $8.99/qt. and should last me for years. ....Is this the good stuff?

Am I using the wrong two-stroke oil?

I am a residential user, and for the last five years I have used 100 percent synthetic Quaker State TCW3 in my Ryobi 725. The stuff runs vitually smokeless, and it runs like a champ for its intended purpose. Anyway, I just bought a Craftsman chainsaw (a Poulan rebadge), and it says that "using...
