    RIP Gil De Ferran

Just seeing reports that Gil De Ferran suffered a fatal heart attack while doing some racing alongside his son at a private track in Florida. He was only 56. Always a good racer and seemed to be a classy guy.

    Google Nest doorbell installation ?

I was gifted a "wired" Google Nest camera/doorbell. My house has vinyl siding. Where the current button doorbell (and wires) is located is where the Nest will go. My problem is that there is about a 1/2 to 3/4 void between the siding and the house so that when you push on the button the siding...

    Went to Mavis for tires!

Made a 12 pm Saturday appt at a local Mavis for two tires. When I got there he told me they would call when it's done. I asked what time would that be? About 5 pm was the reply. I had to ask exactly what purpose does an appointment serve? No answer, just a blank stare. I couldn't wait and I...

Buy the car at the end of the lease?

When it comes to leasing, I'm a relative novice which may explain this question. My daughter has a 2018 RAV-4 with only 22,600 miles to turn in this month. The dealer has virtually the exact same cars on their lot selling for $21,000-$23,000. The buyout number on my daughter's lease is $15,500...

    New Valvoline Maxlife 150K

Saw this on the Valvoline site when using their oil selector. It doesn't appear in the "Products" tab so no other info such as a PDS sheet. Something new on the horizon maybe?

Old ammo still ok to use?

I have two revolvers; a .22 S&W and a 357 magnum S&W that I haven't fired in maybe 20-25 years. Would like to go to the range with my son. My question is I still have some old ammo; .22, .38 and 357 rounds all of which are also about 25 years old. Is it still safe and usable or should I turn it...

Clock radio lights failing on '08 Honda CR-V

First the pre-set button lights failed. Now the face lighting where the time and station is displayed is starting to fail. When that goes the radio will be totally dark and since most of my driving tends to be in the dark, that's going to be a problem. This the factory radio/CD player and...

    Valvoline WB now a syn-blend in 5/20 & 5/30

I just noticed that Valvoline's PDS sheets state that VWB is a syn-blend in their 5w-20 and 5w-30 weights. Is this a new development? The sheet has an effective date of 1-3-17 so I thought it may have just happened. The other weights 10w-30, 10w-40 and 20w-50 have their own sheet and are not...

    Product Data Sheet question

I'm a little confused about some of the values presented to us by the oil companies on their data sheets. I know what to look for when it comes to Pour Points, Flash Points, NOACK, etc. What I don't know is how to interpret is the various entries related to viscosity. They all show "vis @ 40C...

Some High Mileage oils Dexos approved, others not

I see that Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage Oil in either 5W-20 or 5W-30 is not DEXOS approved but Valvoline SynPower w/ Maxlife is approved in both viscosity grades. Anyone know if this is a choice by Pennzoil or is there something about this particular oil that won't meet the Dexos requirements...

    Cold flow properties

Just looking at Pennzoil Platinum PDS comparing cold flow temps of 0W-20 and 5W-20 flavors. Can't figure out why the 5W-20 flows at -51 and the 0W-20 flows at -48. Shouldn't the 0W flow at a lower temp?

MaxLife Semi Syn 5w-20 vs Castrol HM

Can anyone out there answer why Valvoline MaxLife SemiSyn 5w-20 is Dexos approved while Castrol SemiSyn High Mileage 5w-20 is not? Do you think it's just a question of whether Castrol didn't want to go through the certification process and expense? Or, is there something about the Castrol that...
