    Oil for Daily Beater Camry

We are running 20w50 in those engines. Contrary to what many on this forum believe, it won't blow up or need changing every week.

    Anyone still using 20w50?

Very common in South Africa, at parts stores you will find it is held by all major brands. Nothing wrong with it, most older vehicles require it.

    oil change mileage

Yes they do. Plus we run Euro2 fuel standard which is outdated, at 95 octane. Oil used in local Hyundai dealer is Castrol Edge, whilst the Kia outlet on the same premises uses Total 5w30 full synthetic.

    oil change mileage

In South Africa Hyundai service intervals are 15k km or 1 year. The advice given seems straight up BS .

    Delo 400 MGX

My choice of diesel engine oil in my shop is Delo or Total Rubia 15w40 oil. With the Delo 400MGX, any input on whether I. could run it in Renaults dci engines, which call for a 5w40 oil?

    SAE 40

Try it. The Api grading will be more than sufficient, plus the cost will work out more favorable. I've never understood the mantra of using a higher spec than what the manufacturer calls for , nor the obsession with miniscule differences in analysis results.

    SAE 40

They work well on older Diesels, SA has 50ppm diesel with 500ppm still availible. I wouldnt use in modern engines, there i stick to the manufacturers grades, my main usage of SAE 40 is clients older vehicles which have older design engines that are now burning or leaking oil to an extent. The 40...

    SAE 40

SG grade popular over here on monogrades. Later specs on monogrades are rare, almost as if being reserved for other grades

Oil changes with use - picture project

Just keep changing at regular intervals, no need to obsess over it.

    SAE 40

Very interesting, blows the theory of thinner oils being the ultimate out of the water.

What does the factory call for on the Duramax and has the use of a 40 oil made any difference to the engine, ie noise or cooling reduction?

    SAE 40

Yep, thats the main reason. I dont do it on newer vehicles with extended drain and specific synthetic requirements.

    SAE 40

I use it on high mileage older vehicles that call for a 20w50 SF/SG grade. Really quietens them up. Not brand specific, just use from the major players.

    SAE 40

South Africa, summer temps 28deg C to mid 30's, winter around the low 20's. I find using it in older cars works very well.

    Oil change after induction cleaning?

Time the cleaning as part of every service. Much easier.

    SAE 40

Am i the only person with a love for Sae 40 SG monograde? My preferred choice for quietening and limiting oil consumption on older vehicles.

    Overthinking?

I presume oil is a quality brand, but the marketing video would put me off. Poor info and no real facts. My opinion is the video gave off a poor image and did more harm than good. Its filed under 'synthetic protection' by a guy called Eben.

    Overthinking?

Surely 10k would be a sufficient change interval? Regardless of brand?
  19. M

    Overthinking?

Over here your vehicle needs to be serviced at the dealer otherwise the warranty is void.

    Overthinking?

It may well be, the marketing though.. Stick with a well known brand, yearly changes no issue. Applies to all brands.
