Hi @LouC , you stalking me over here? 😀

    Mercruiser 4.3l oil

Well, just rereading the manual. It specifically recommends 20w-40 over 20w-50, and (interestingly) specifically recommends against synthetic.

    Mercruiser 4.3l oil

Still way more load on the marine engine. The equivalent would be going up a mountain in 5th gear towing a trailer constantly. Not sure where you get your fuel economy info

    Mercruiser 4.3l oil

Not sure that's the case, much debate on the boating forums, I'd love to see specs. Other differences between marine and auto are composite or ss head gasket and brass core plugs. By 2001 the blazer block had both. The block drains are on the auto block as well. Balance shaft engines came out...

    Mercruiser 4.3l oil

Looking for oil for my 4.3L mercruiser. I got the block from a high mileage blazer, unknown history. I had used rotella/delvac 15w-40 conventional oil in the 3.7l that it replaced. Wondering if I should continue that, switch to a supertech full synthetic for the same price, or ... Filter was...

Castrol edge 5w40 us vs euro?

Yeah, I couldn't find it on Castrol either. I think I used the US stuff last time, since I have part of a jug in the garage. Weird that they specifically named it "us" though

Castrol edge 5w40 us vs euro?

No, figured everyone here knew about it ;) Here ya go: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Castrol-EDGE-5W-40-Advanced-Full-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-5-Quarts/145736795 And here's euro]

Castrol edge 5w40 us vs euro?

Was looking to change the oil in my wife's 2017 golf sportwagen 1.8t. came across the above Castrol oils. Specs on the back are identical, and both meet vw 502 00/505 00. The only difference on the bottle that I see it's that the euro is a3b4. I ended up getting the euro, because...euro, but it...

    2014 Mini Cooper JCW recs?

Right, that's what I was looking for, but the LL-01 that I had previously used (Castrol edge, m1, Pennzoil Platinum) are either no longer LL-01 or harder to find. I can't find a standard easy to find LL-01FE from one of the big guys. As usual probably overthinking. A "euro" 0w-30/40 like the...

    2014 Mini Cooper JCW recs?

Are there other certs I should look for aside from LL-01? others that are "long life"?

    2014 Mini Cooper JCW recs?

As is the case when I spend too much time here, I'm going down a rabbit hole of different specs, tests, etc. What's the TL;DR version for availability at my FLAPS or Wally world?

    2014 Mini Cooper JCW recs?

Just picked up a '14 Mini Cooper JCW convertible (so second generation). Looking for oil recs, surprised that I can't find much here. Manual recommends 0W-40, 0W-30, 5W-40, or 5W-30, BMW Longlife-01 / BMW Longlife-01 FE Since these LL-01 seem to be a moving target, seeing what the latest recs...

STP syn oil for BMW E46?

Well, doesn't look like it's LL-01. As cheap as I am, I figure I might as well stick to the recommended specs from BMW. I use 7500 miles as my OCI (Or when my computer tells me that there's 7500 miles until the next OCI). So I couldn't find the Pennzoil euro formula at autozone or advance. That...

STP syn oil for BMW E46?

Going to pick up some oil after work today, looking through the oil change specials came across STP syn. Saw some limited info that looks like it might be LL-01, but really can't find anything detailed about it.

    KISS for an '01 BMW 330Ci /E46 /M54

New wrinkle: flaps had Pennzoil 0w-30 on sale. Literature says it's ll01, bottle says ll04. Drive know what to think about that. Also it's a "recommended" oil by their tool

    KISS for an '01 BMW 330Ci /E46 /M54

Huh. Went to castrol site and they have a handy dandy oil selector tool, which recommends edge 0w-30. Looking up the specs from there shows the 0w-30 to be LL-01. Pennzoil has a similar tool, which recommends 5w-40. Why hadn't I seen these sites before? Anyway, looks like any of the above should...

    KISS for an '01 BMW 330Ci /E46 /M54

Just trying to find an approved oil for the above car. I keep getting lost in technical details when searching, and the BMW list keeps changing. Had been using M1, but since it lost LL-01 I've used pennzoil platinum euro 5w40 and castrol edge 0w40 (I thought I had used 0w30, but when I double...

Oil filter for the common man

Thanks for all the help. Tough part about this site is that all the "cut open my filter" posts are tough to sort through and compare. Looks like the fram is still a solid choice. Online at WM $8.40 for the XG2 and $5.94 for the TG2. $8.40 and every other change seems like a great deal. Would...

Oil filter for the common man

More limited filter selection than I thought at autozone. Only had Purolators (reg/one/boss), M1, Fram EG, Bosch, K&N, CQ, and a couple that I can't remember. Ended up going with the CQ red ($6). I'll pick up a few TG next time I see them on sale or at Wally World. More info asked above: It's...
