Hi guys. I didn't want to hijack the thread, but wanted to chime in with my experience, since I had essentially the same thing happen to my 2014 Lexus CT 200h (which uses the 3rd gen Prius powertrain). Like most Prius models, I also experience the same strange vibration and shuddering on cold...

Mobil 1 0W/20 Annual Protection Virgin Oil

The inconvenience of doing this, plus the labor cost and the oil that I would have to replace, would make it not worth doing. This was an issue with the bypass filter system I thought about getting, which made it a harder sell.

    Mobil One Extended Performance filter

I've been using Mobil 1's EP filter along with the EP oil for a while, and once I hit 26k OCIs, the filter showed slight degradation in the filter media. I didn't feel comfortable pushing it past that. I have since switched to Wix XP. The EP filter is listed as a "synthetic blend" type while...

    M1 AFE 0w-20 or EP 0w-20

I used the AFE 0W20 stuff in my car a lot due to it being my mechanic's go-to full synthetic oil, and have no complaints. When I decided to extend my OCI, I switched to EP. I wish I had run tests with AFE, but I started my UOA reporting with EP. Driving 60 MPH with cruise on, 80 to 90% highway...

    Seeking advice/opinions on bypass filter

I hope I got this right, but... If the engine is running clean (no unusual issues), and the additives are still present, and the filter is rarely seeing large particles to filter, then is it really necessary to change the filter when the oil is changed? Or is this just the way we've been asked...

    Seeking advice/opinions on bypass filter

Again, I thank all of you for your inputs. I understand that a BP system doesn't increase engine life. There's just a chance of longer engine life due to a chance of less wear due to fewer harmful particles moving around. I didn't realize that a BP system would take so long in filtering the...

    Seeking advice/opinions on bypass filter

I want to stress that my mechanic feels it MIGHT be due to debris that went past the full flow filter because I have such long OCIs. He is well-aware it could be something else. He just strongly believes in bypass filters for long-term engine life and clean oil because full flow filters don't...

    Seeking advice/opinions on bypass filter

Update: first major problem detected at 304,444 miles. Rear Main Seal leak. The reason I bring up this update here is because my mechanic feels this could likely be due to debris that made it past the filter and damaged the seal. Since I run such long OCIs on only the full flow filter, it may...
