    Please rate these 5w40 oils...

Mario: because I was so confused about the "fully synthetic", "100% synthetic" etc., so today I ordered Silkolene Pro S 5w40 (finally I could get it easily). It is as expensive as the Motul 300V, but it is approved by some car manufacturers, has some API and ACEA specifications etc. (300V has...

    Please rate these 5w40 oils...

Is the API SM (Castrol GTX Magnatec 5W-40 and LiquiMoly Synthoil HighTech 5W/40 HD) any significant advantage or it doesn't matter?

    Please rate these 5w40 oils...

Thank you Mario. Is it possible that we have no group 4 oils commonly available here in Europe? Are you sure that the Havoline is the same in the USA and in Europe? It seems to me that same oils have different parameters depending on the location, so onecan't know what exactly is he buying. [...

    Best 5w40 ?

I have created a new thread with some oils listed, which is probably more well-arranged. Please vote for your favorite, thanks.

    Please rate these 5w40 oils...

Could you please rate the oils listed below? These can be easily bought in my country in Europe (all are 5w40). If you know any details (PAO, Ester, Group 3 etc) about some oil, please drop few words here. - Castrol GTX Magnatec 5W-40: API SM/CF, ACEA A3, B3, B4, VW 502.00, VW 505.00 - Castrol...

    Best 5w40 ?

year 98. Here in EU, Honda recommends anything from 5w30 to 10w40, I think 5w40 is the best compromise.

    Best 5w40 ?

What would you recommend as the best 5w40 oil available in Europe? I would like some PAO or Ester 5w40 synthetic. I had used Motul 300V 5w40, but it is a bit expensive and I am not sure if it can be used in a daily driver. Now I bought a used car that has used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 for all...

    Pressure vs flow

This is clear an similar to electricity, where flow = current and pressure = voltage. The oil pump is a current (flow) source and all narrow necks in the oil patha are resistors. The question is if the metal parts need voltage (oil pressure), current (oil flow) or both to stay separated?

    Pressure vs flow

Thanks for all replies If I understand it, if the bearing would be inside some bottle of oil, it would work without any problems? Of course, the oil would be cooled. It means that the bearing is "full of oil", because oil is everywhere near the bearing, so the created hydrodynamic pressure...

    Pressure vs flow

Clear. If there was no pressure in the "closed oil", it wouldn't lube a bit? With closed and pressurized, an oil with very high HTHS could lube in such conditions?
  15. P

    Pressure vs flow

If I understand it correctly, the oil pressure ensures lubrication and avoids metal to metal contact, while oil flow cools the metal parts. If I closed the "drain" of oil and keeped the oil pressurized, so there was no oil flow, will the oil lubricate and avoid the metal to metal contact? Just...

    HTHS explanation

    HTHS explanation

I see, so I was thinking about it wrong, the HTHS parameter itself doesn't guarantee the quality of oil under hard conditions. So what parameter should I look for in datasheets? You wrote that there are oils with lower HTHS but better lower shear - how to find them?

    HTHS explanation

So to summarize it, does it mean that an oil with higher HTHS is more stable under hard conditions (high temp, pressure, etc.)? If there could be a situation that a low HTHS oil will cut it's layer of oil and there is a possibility of metal to metal contact (for example in a bearing) ?

New oil has arrived - Motul 300V

Nice pictures really don't matter on a camera. Anyway, this is Minolta A1 and BTW those pictures are far from nice

New oil has arrived - Motul 300V

Do you think so? I have asked Motul and they said 300V is suitable for all engines and common use. You cannot buy their pure racing oils in a common shop. All cases of leaks that I've heard about were not well tightened bolts of valve cover etc.
