    Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring

The motor in the Multistrada is a 4 valve desmodromic water cooled L-twin and there are (2) shims (opening and closing) on each valve. The valve train is operated via (2) Kevlar? belts which require replacement every 2 years or 15,000 miles. The engine is somewhat more complex than the Suzuki...

Good substitues for Shell Advance Ultra 4/Ducati

Almost forgot, Quote: I doubt that there are many, if any motorcyclists participating on this forum that can ride a motorcycle hard enough on the street to compromise a good quality HDEO such as Rotella 15W40 that's being changed every 3000 miles. Anyone who would try to run a street bike...

What is the best oil filter?

Quote: Fram Extended Guard. (Oh yes, I said it.) +1. Also Bosch D+, Mobil 1, Wix... By the way, having used the "Orange Can of Death" for hundreds of thousands of miles (changed every 3,000 miles), I'll have to state that the perceived risk of using the low end Fram filter is much over stated!!!

Good substitues for Shell Advance Ultra 4/Ducati

I own a 2011 Ducati Monster 696 and debated this a great deal. Once again, it seems that oil change interval is much more important than whatever brand you are using in addition to dino versus synthetic. Concurring with what other folks are posting here, shear is the greatest issue with ANY oil...

    22M x 1.5 Time Sert

I could split the cases and have it welded and re-tapped, the only issue being the "intrusive" nature of that repair. The cost would be less than $100.00 (I had it priced at a local machine shop). Splitting the cases on a bike is no small task, thus the intent to use a Time-Sert. I contacted...

    22M x 1.5 Time Sert

Thanks for the help guys, this is for an oil screen, of all things. The correct Time-Sert is an M22x1.5, 20mm long. I am in the process of ordering the insert but tool procurement is been very unproductive. I cannot change the hole diameter given the nature of the repair (oil screen). The case...

    22M x 1.5 Time Sert

I need to repair an aluminum pan with a Time Sert, 22 millimeters in size. Does anyone here know if a shop in the Dallas/Fort Worth area carries the tool to make this repair? The tool itself is $412.00, quite pricey for a one time repair but I may have to "bite the bullet" and order it. -Garry

    Fram PH3387A cut open....

Quote: the ADBV stuck to the "cap" of the can instead of the filter Sounds like the ADBV valve is doing a great job, you do realize that this implies no oil can leak past the valve back into the engine? From your photos it was obvious that oil was being brought into the filter properly via the...

Noted the same thing here in Fort Worth, Walmart now has Bosch filters. To say that I was impressed was an understatement...

    STP Oil Filters

I use STP filters on my motorcycle without issue. They seem reasonably well constructed, certainly no worse than what is typically available... The version I use (S3512) does not use an e-core design (not that this is necessarily a negative). They seem similar to the Fram's which I typically use.

    WD-40 Chain Lube - Boraticus?

I've tried WD-40, but what I have found to work well is kerosened. I buy the 1 gallon cans from home depot for around $10.00 and use a soft bristle brush coupled with a shallow pan to get the grime off. Works VERY WELL and does not harm the o-rings. For lubrication I use a chain wax. Not sure...

When to Switch to Synthetic on New Suzuki?

Quote: I bet he could run some non API dollar store oil and never wear his engine out. He's worried over lubrication for something he never even rides. just seems kinda funny to me. +1!!!!

When to Switch to Synthetic on New Suzuki?

Another vote for Rotella T 15w-40 here... Are you absolutely sure the bike does not have synthetic in it now? My Ducati Monster, which I bought new, was shipped with synthetic oil in the crankcase. Furthermore, if you stick with a commonly available HDEO like Rotella or similar, the sourcing of...

    Valvoline VR1 in bikes?

If you use Google, you'll find quite a bit of discussion on oil, mineral and otherwise in bikes, so much so that it might almost be interpreted as a religious debate... Just about ANY (detergent) oil will be more than adequate in keeping your engine free of sludge provided it is CHANGED...
