2003 GMC Sierra DMAX 10k sample

Sorry for the late reply salesrep, I was out of town all week. That was the second Schaeffer's fill on this engine. First fill I only ran 5k with no analysis. Then this 10k drain with analysis at both 5k and 10k.

2003 GMC Sierra DMAX 10k sample

Thanks for the response. About 40% of the 10k was towing our 10k 5er or other stuff. The rest are combo city/highway miles. I just changed the air filter about a week or so ago as it looked pretty dirty when I pulled the sample. The seal looked pretty good, but will double check the seal of the...

2003 GMC Sierra DMAX 10k sample

Here are the results from my 10k sample running Schaeffer's Supreme 15w-40. I have not changed the oil yet. No secondary filtration, only about a half qt make up oil between the 5,500 mile sample and the 10,000 mile sample. 5,500 mile sample was done through Schaeffer's, 10,000 mile sample was...

    Schaeffers 15-40 Duramax

I asked if it was possible for a TBN to be done in the special instructions section, it stated that the lab does not test TBN. Either way, the wear numbers still look really good, so I am certainly pleased, just curious is all...

    Schaeffers 15-40 Duramax

So should I be using Blackstone or Avlube for my oil analysis then? I find the 0 for soot kinda hard to believe as well. This was a prepaid oil sample kit that I used, so I don't know if there is anything I could do about this.

    Schaeffers 15-40 Duramax

Just as a side note, I added no oil during that 5k run, nor did I change the filter after sampling. My engine doesn't burn any noticable amount of oil (knock on aluminum) so I probably won't have to add any oil to get to 10k. Bob

    Schaeffers 15-40 Duramax

Hey, you beat me to it!! Very pleased with the results, will sample again at 10k to see if it needs to be changed at that time or not. I am still a newbie at all this, but the numbers look really good, right?? Bob

    Not another synthetic oil question...

Sorry for not keeping up on this in the past few days. Yes I have seen 1300-1400 degrees pre turbo pulling 7% grades with our fifth wheel both with and without a power box. The power box I run is an Edge Juice box, set on the 40hp level when towing. I have mounted my EGT probe in the passenger...

    Not another synthetic oil question...

Again, thanks for the additional comments. I did find the BBQ test this afternoon and found it interesting, wish I knew how hot that oil got!! Obviously running 1300 EGT's doesn't actually heat up the oil to that temp or else it would turn into a chared solid clump!! I guess when you look at the...

    Not another synthetic oil question...

Thanks for the responses so far. I have thought about taking the Delo out to 10k and have it analized to see if it holds up or not and post it for the group to comment on. But gosh that is a long time to go on dino oil!! At least GM can't void my warranty for a 10k drain as that is what they...

    Not another synthetic oil question...

Long time lurker, first time posting. I have done numerous searches to try and answer my own questions, although I have learned a lot, I wasn't able to find the answers I was looking for..maybe wrong buzz words. I have a 2003 Duramax Diesel getting close to 20,000 miles and ready for another...
