First Oil Change for '06 Outback

Subaru recommends the first change at 3,000 miles. I have gone almost 2,000 now and want to change out the factory fill for GC 0w-30. We are taking the car on a road trip, so I though t I'd change it before we go. The engine has used about 1/4 of a quart since I bought the car with 6 miles on...

Toyota Paseo on the dirt track

I guess I could have posted this on the racing forum, but its not REALLY a race car I have a question about. I have a buddy who is racing in a local amature track under the "Four Banger" category. Cars like gutted Honda CRX's, 10 year old NIssans and in my Buddy's case, a 1992 Toyota Paseo witha...

    2006 Outback 2.5 L Oil Filter

The parts guys at NAPA only have a listing for a 3.0 liter engine. A couple of other parts stores around here give me conflicting answeres, and the Subaru dealer parts guy insists I must use a Subaru filter to maintain the warranty. Do any of you guys know a NAPA or WIX or Baldwin # for this...

    Recommended oil weights and Warranties

Just bought an '06 Outback, 5-speed with the non-turbo 2.5 4 cylinder engine. Subaru recommends going 3,000 miles to the first change, and though I'd be inclined to change sooner, I think I'll go the 3K. Ouch. I bought the extended 7 year 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty with thought that some...

Does synthetic oil burn easier in older motors?

I have an elderly Ford Y-Block that has been overhauled with a hone and cast rings. I'm using M1 15w-50 and it uses about a quart in 1,500 miles, and I can see it on some of the spark plugs. There is no smoke, no leaks and the engine runs really well. Do you guys think the characteristics of...

GC in slow reving truck motors = KaBang?

Having read all these posts on the GC, I wonder if it would pose any problems in a low reving V8, in highly loaded vehicle like a truck. Seems like most of you guys are using the stuff in high winding Japanese and European motors. Would I be endangering the lower end?

    GC batch number

Found 10 quarts in an Autozone in Oakland. It is amber in color if that makes a difference. It says "Made in Germany" on the back label with the following batch # stamped in white on the bottom of the bottle: M050286ATW6241615 Is this the stuff and does it have a chance to quiet the piston slap...

    Best lube for old axle

Checked the 10-year old 140wt lube in my 49 year old Dana 44 under my truck and it's black. The unit doesn't make any noise and seems to be in pretty good shape considering it's advanced age. Should I stick with 140wt? Is this lube still available? I HAVE heard that changing the rear end lube is...

    Mobil 1 15W-50 1957 Ford 292 Y-Block 3,100 miles OCI

Engine was rebuilt 6,100 miles ago, and broken in on 2 fills of Delo 15W-40. This is the second fill of Mobil 1 15W-50 (8 months @ 3,100 miles). Filter was a Napa Gold 1515. This is a 1950's OHV design with shaft mounted rockers using brass bushings on a chromed shaft, solid lifters. Pistons are...

Blackstone analysis kit- Where is it?

Geez- how long does it take for these guys to send out a kit? Do they let the orders build up before sending them out? I have been waiting 3 weeks!

Oil Chage- Drain it hot or cold?

I've always heard hot, and have always done it that way. I pull into the driveway after a good 15 minute run on the freeway, then let it drain for an hour. I also remove the filter during the draining which always pukes a little more out. A mechanic friend claims that doing it cold is actually...
