Just changed Tranny fluid, GL4 to GL5...

Haven't looked at this in a while but speaking of that "aftermarket trans builder" who swears by it, I think I know exactly who you're talking about (I'm from Chicago and I see you are too!). If its M1 in Glenview, I've argued with him about this for a while as well. He's been putting that same...

Just changed Tranny fluid, GL4 to GL5...

Rough, sounds like the prevailing opinion is that I should change it out. It just sucks that in order to find a good, synthetic fluid (like Redline or Amsoil) I have to order online since there's no dealers in my area (I hate SW Missouri!!!)

Just changed Tranny fluid, GL4 to GL5...

I've always been of the opinion that Manual trans fluid should be changed every 30-40k for cars that are driven fairly hard. In my case, I drive my car pretty hard on a regular basis. As such, I first changed my trans fluid at 30k miles with Lubromoly GL-4 75w90. I recently changed it a 2nd time...

    07 GP GXP Mobil Clean 5000 5w-20 4500mi

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I've read a bit about the negatives of Dex cool and I will definitely be changing that garbage out ASAP.

    07 GP GXP Mobil Clean 5000 5w-20 4500mi

Well truth be told, I have no clue what oil this car has had in it prior to this MB 5k. I guess that's the gamble you take with a Used car, tho. I know that the oil hasn't been this 5w-20, however; as the previous owner didn't normally take this car to my dealer for it's oil changes, it was just...

    07 GP GXP Mobil Clean 5000 5w-20 4500mi

First off, I fully realize that this was the TOTALLY wrong oil for the car. It calls for 5W-30 but the previous owner of the vehicle opted to have the oil changed at the dealer I work at, and we only use Mobil Clean 5000 5w-20 which is our Bulk oil. Anyway, this car was traded in and was the...

97 Cadillac STS, Castrol GTX 10w-30, 3.5k miles

Thanks!! I've been running it 1/2 low since the last oil change, and I've now gone close to 2k miles without adding any oil, still no oil light on either. Seems to work great! Also, I'm not worried about driving it hard. This car regularly sees WOT (can't help it with 300hp at my disposal!)...

97 Cadillac STS, Castrol GTX 10w-30, 3.5k miles

That's a good point, I have a tendency to top it up whenever I see it in that "lower" zone. I'll keep it lower for this oil change and see how it goes. Thanks!

97 Cadillac STS, Castrol GTX 10w-30, 3.5k miles

I was really worried about this car just due to the current mileage (now over 170k) and with how much oil it uses (about a quart every 1000miles), but overall I'm quite pleased with the results. I just wish I could stop the oil burning!

    Total Quartz 9000 5W40, 4k miles, 04 VW 1.8T

Yeah I've only been able to find the Total oil online so far. I love it but I'm gonna try out the Lubro-Moly and see how it works. I can't wait to test my 97 STS next and see what happens :)

    Total Quartz 9000 5W40, 4k miles, 04 VW 1.8T

Hey everyone, this is my first UOA Ever so I was pretty excited with the results. According to Blackstone Labs, my car's in pretty good shape. I've been using Total Quartz 9000 Full-Syn 5W40 for about the past 4-5 oil changes, and I actually switched to Lubro-Moly 5W-40 this past oil change due...

    Kendall Titanium....

I work for an oil distribution company and from what I hear, Kendall is changing their formula by adding liquid Titanium to their oil to make up for the lack of Zinc or ZDDP from previous years. Just what I heard, hope this helps!

    Audi S4 4.2L V8 - Lubro Moly vs Amsoil

From what I've read, the problem isn't so much the FSI but more the PCV system (which sucks). Most guys run an aftermarket "Catch Can" system to remedy this, and not just on the FSI's but the 1.8T's as well which are non FSI (along with the 4.2 in the Audi in question, as well as my old S4 2.7TT).

Advice on Cadillac with 4.6 Northstar...

Alright, Dino oil it is! Yeah I heard that the oil consumption was due to very soft piston rings in the earlier Northstar engines. I guess I'm just looking to minimize that problem haha. I was thinking of Lucas oil stabilizer but I read a lot of negative stuff about that recently so fuggetabout...

Advice on Cadillac with 4.6 Northstar...

Hey everyone, I've searched and searched but haven't found a whole lot on what people prefer on Northstar-powered Caddy. I'm about to buy a 97 STS from my parents with about 160k on the clock. My dad uses Dino oil (whatever's cheapest, unfortunately. Usually Meier's brand oil) and I was hoping...

    2002 Jetta GLS 1.8T 124k oil recommendations

FYI GC=German Castrol, took me a lot of searching to figure that out lol. I got talked out of the Castrol Syntec due to the fact that it's claimed to not be a "true" synthetic, as it uses crude oils as its base stock. From what I read, it also breaks down more quickly than synthetics made out of...

    2002 Jetta GLS 1.8T 124k oil recommendations

I've always used either M1 5W-40 or Castrol Syntec 5W-40 in my 1.8T's (and S4 2.7T) until recently (last 15k miles). I switched to Total oil 5W-40 although you have to order it online to get it (used to be called "Elf" oil). I've been reading the heck out of this forum for the past couple days...
