    Thanks! You have been very helpful. There were still flatheads around then but the Buick was using overhead valve. I'm sure you are right about it being low loaded so anything out there today will maintain a film.

    A 5W20 would allow me to start it in the winter without preheating. It's readily available too. One ad (which I realize is a biased source of info) for an additive mentioned that the metal and mineral additives will still be in place for the dry start in the spring after everything has drained down.

    I feel comfortable with the 30 weight in it but having the oil pressure gauge in the high zone most of the time is a bit of a concern. I haven't seen 20W20 on the shelves at all. I'm sure someone could order it for me if it was worth the trouble.
