    What A/C to use?

The AC will always be more efficient (colder air) in recirculation mode. This is because it takes a bit of heat from the cabin air that is already cooled rather than a lot of heat from the outside air. Fresh air mode will make the compressor cycle much more. You only need the fresh air mode if...

    expired tags

Here, you do pay for any lapsed months. If it has been more than 6 months or more you can re-boot your registration to the current month if you sign the document stating your vehicle has been in storage this entire time and not used on a public road. There are no penalties for storing your...

New to me 1994 Buick Park Avenue

Thanks for all the replies! The on line owners manual was quite a read. Many good suggestions from you all. I will be doing a thorough inspection of all rubber. I have a short list of replacement items for peace of mind but I will wait and watch on the tires. If new tires were cheaper we would...

New to me 1994 Buick Park Avenue

I work maintenance in a retirement condo community. As the residents age and quit driving, if they don't pass the car to family I am sometimes asked if I know someone who might be interested. I purchased this Buick to use for our commute: 60 miles morning and again in the evening. A lot less...

Chlorinated vs Non chlorinated brake cleaner?

As I understand it, Chlorinated makes some VERY toxic fumes when it gets hot (exhaust manifold or whatever) and the non chlorinated is less deadly.

How many of you ride in the rain?

Tail of the Dragon? Your first time there or have you been before? I have lots of miles but found this road a challenge for sure. You likely wont wan't to go slow as traffic will build behind you. If this is your first time there I would watch the forecast for a dry weekend.

    House electrical wiring question

Got a volt meter? Disconnect all of the leads and compare each one with the ground (the box in your case). You will figure out which is the hot wire and put that one where it belongs (marked "line" on your GFCI).

Is there an easier way to ship things?

/\. Yes! You need a scale. And an account with FedEx with billing to your charge card. They have an online shipping calculator. After you print a label and put it on the package you can drop it at any of their locations and run away. Go around the line of people that don't have the label.

    Oil for filter gasket.

Don't you guys pour clean oil into the new filter? That is the way my filter gasket gets oiled. Edit: early beat me by 16 seconds.

    Painting old ceiling tiles

I have painted similar looking ceiling tiles. I was able to fill the grid with just a bit of extra pressure or by rolling with the end/edge where needed butI repaired some small defects with painter's caulk. You might wan't to do the same where you see the gaps between the tiles. I only primed...

Do any of these need replacing?

The air filter is fine. It doesn't look like it is even ready for cleaning. When you do clean in in another 20,000 miles use the cleaning and re-oiling kit available from K&N. The O2 sensor looks fine but I don't think you can go by looks. Most manufacturers have a replacement interval based on...

Average Service Life of ECU ?

After many years and heat cycles, The solder joints can crack and cause a no start or intermittent performance issues. For my 1985 BMW it is good to have a tested spare on hand. Only $25 at the parts yard and about double that from another yard hound. Swapping in the "known good" ECU is part of...

    brake pads and rotors?

The warranty at auto zone is something. Wear your pads out and they will warranty that! Tell them you just weren't happy with them after 30,000 miles and get a store credit. Just crazy IMOP. Specifically, stick with what came on your vehicle originally. Semi-metallic for semi-metallic; ceramic...

    Multi-year OCI's?

When my work duties included a fleet of more than 20 vehicles I was busy with oil changes. I decided to let the plow truck alone for a 2 year interval. After all, it really only pushed snow for about 1,500 winter miles and was not used much in the summer. The 2 year OCI brought about 4,500 miles...

    Scored a john deere je75 for $35

The clutch for the blade brake eventually fails. The parts to fix that are more than your initial investment for sure. You got a great buy on a quality mower!

    How old are these windows?

I have found that public / county records aren't too accurate but utility company records are. You might contact your electric utility to find when service was installed. My gas company showed me a sketch of my lot with an indication of where the service was to enter the basement. Yep, it had a...

    Oil recommendations for classic car?

He only drives it 1000 miles with no winter driving. Synthetic is a waste! Valvoline VR1 has everything he needs. I think 20w50 but it has been 25 years since I had a Corvair.

    Bleeder thread sealant?

This kind of fitting is sealed at the base and not at the threads. Surprised they include a thread sealant. It might be a corrosion inhibitor. I put a super small amount of antisieze paste on mine.
