To all of the light pickup owners. Why did u choose your PSD, Cummins, or Duramax?

I was going to purchase a Ford PSD in '03 but was concerned about any bugs that might arrive with the new 6.0. Good move ....... :-) I don't care for the looks of the Chevy 4x4 what with the cables hanging underneath in full view. One test drive in the Patriot Blue '03 Dodge 4x4 shorty with...

    First Oil Change

I'm a firm believer in doing the first couple of changes on short intervals. The cost of an additional 3 gallons of oil won't break me; and it does give me some peace of mind. I did the first oil change on my '03 CTD at 3500 miles, then the next one @ 8000 miles. The first oil change was a...

Kerosene in diesel hard on engine oil?

Keep in mind that the 2nd gen CTD Dodges are not the high pressure common rail systems currently in use and introduced with the '03 model year. It seems that there have been a few threads on the Dodge boards about newer pumps failing up in Canada due (apparently) to using fuel that has lower...

Kerosene in diesel hard on engine oil?

Here's a url for 2nd gen Dodge Cummins Turbodiesels that talks about running 1K and 2K kerosene in the engines. Doesn't say anything about the engine not liking it, but it does recommend to mix with some lube oil to prevent Injection pump damage. http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/98ISBspecs.html

How about mixing Redline D4 and MTL?

I've got a T-5 in my '93 'Stang. I've run D4, MTL, M1 ATF and good ole dino ATF in it at one time or another. I was in the fluid "test" mode a few years ago to find something that would minimize the slight grind going into 5th at high speed. The only fluid(s) that made it all but disappear was...

    new bike

Nice bike! I always liked the Eddie Lawson Replicas. I saw an article in a Sport Rider magazine last night at the supermarket where they looked at a supercharged a ZRX1200 that put out 200hp @ 10k rpm and runs the 1/4 in something like 9.5@148. It was a Green one. Better break out some more...

    10W40 vs 15W40

I'm probably the only one on this site that had his clutch slip with Amsoil 15W40 (AME). Bandit 12S; had 3500 miles on the clock. I had a few gallons sitting around and really thought I was doing my bike a good thing. I have to admit that the engine ran great, idled faster and smoother, but...

Dino. vs Syn. for Short trips....

Going with syn you've reduced your contribution of recycled oil by half as well - every little bit helps.

auto 10w/40 ok for wet clutch

After Amsoil 15W-40 made the clutch slip, I did a couple of short drain intervals with Castrol GTX 10W-40, and the clutch hooks up good again.

    warm diesel drive off?

On my Dodge CTD, I was led to believe that the concern on cold starts is fuel washdown into the crank case. The expansion coefficients of the aluminum pistons is different than the iron block, so the idea is to be able to warm up the engine to normal temps quickly but gently. Prolonged or...

Block heater...what temp do you plug it in?

I plug mine in when the temps are consistently in the low 30'sF. I bought an exterior timer at Home Depot to start the sizzling about 3 hours before I leave for work in the morning. Heat is pretty quick; but the best part is that the windshield is usually clear when I go out to start it. My 4x4...

    Motorcycle storage question

No comment in 5 hours? I'll take a stab. I wonder why does he want to avoid changing the oil filter? In any event, after he changes the oil filter next spring, I'd run it with the fresh stuff he dumped in it this fall. Many bikes aren't lucky enough to have that kind of of preventative...

Any sportbike guys around here ?

Jon/XS650, AME is Amsoil's code for HDD oil - (Heavy Duty Diesel); I had it here and have read where folks have used it with good success. I don't think Amsoil markets it as a m/c oil. I dunno; my Honda 750 used to like M1 so I figured the zook would like the Amsoil I had. I figured wrong. The...

Any sportbike guys around here ?

Not a sportbike, but I've got a '00 Bandit 1200S. I tried some Amsoil AME 15W-40 (had a bunch of it sitting here for the Dodge Diesel) but got some clutch slip. Not sure why, cuz it seems lots of folks around here are happy with it. I did a short drain interval with Rosmella T followed by...

    Loud engine clatter

My 1200S Bandit's clutch is slipping right now with Amsoil AME 15W-40; I'll go back to dino shortly. Bike's got 3700 miles, with 200 on the oil.

    Loud engine clatter

I'd change the oil and listen. The sound you described made me think of either valve train or clutch basket rattle. Either way, I'd dump the oil for some new stuff, I'd use dino for cost reasons, then start her up and listen.

    2004 Cummins Diesel Questions

I'm running amsoil AME 15W-40 in the engine; change filter at 5K, oil at 10k. Diffs are American Axles, and book calls for changing out fluid at 15k intervals - I follow the book on this one. I'm running amsoil TGR 75W-90 in them. I've got a 6-shooter, but would run amsoil ATF in the auto tranny...

Anyone using Motorcraft 15W-40 in a gas engine?

I've been using the same oil (Amsoil) I run in my Cummins in my Mustang; mostly to minimize the wide variety of oil at the house.
