Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

My '01 F150 SCAB is running fine at 157,000 miles. Last 3 OC's were with 5W30 Castrol GTX HM, syn blend. It has been excellent for the 4.6 V8 engine. The HM has stopped a slow drip under oil pan. VW

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 167,000 miles, Out: Valvoline MaxLife Blend 10W30. In: Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W30. The local Walmart was out of MaxLife 10W30. Castrol HM works great in my F150 4.2L but in the 4.0L it has the light ticking at startup, using the Mopar filter. VW

what to run in the i6 4.0

One oil I have not tried in my 2000 JGC 4.0 is Penz. HM. Has anyone tried it? Is it Syn. blend, right? I need a HM oil due to some drips where I park it. VW

what to run in the i6 4.0

I have a 2000 4.0 JGC and the best results (in FL) have been with 10W30 Valvoline MaxLife Blend and Castrol GTX High Mileage (a blend). I have tried many other brands, but these 2 have had no startup rattle and best highway mileage. I tried a 10W40, but it was too thick, and affected mileage...

    What's your favorite oil/filter?

I have switched my truck and Jeep to Castrol GTX HM, and am very impressed with it. I use Ford filters in both vehicles. VW

    HM Oil Question

Hello, I have a 2000 JGC with about 140M on it. Be careful about using the oversized oil filter. There is a smaller Motorcraft that I use, and several others here and on Jeep forums, it is the FL400S. It uses less oil than the OEM filter, but gets rid of the start-up knock very well, and I use...

2001 F150SC 4.6L, 137,000 miles Out MaxLife 5W30, FL820S filter In Castrol GTX HM 5W30, FL820S Filter I noted that the recent GTX HM oil seems very good in this engine. VW

5-30 in Fords calling for 5-20,

I use MaxLife 5w30 in my 2001 F150 with the 4.6. It has about 136,000 on it. It uses some oil on long trips, about 1Qt in 2500 miles. It used more before changing to MaxLife. I really like that engine. VW

    2001 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L

That is what I am currently using in my 2000 JGC 4.0, and it works great. I plan on 1 yr OCI. Mobil 1 HM, 10W30. VW

Jeep 4.0-Mobil 1 HIGH Mileage or Pennzoil ULTRA

This is funny, I just bought 10W30 M1 HM for my 2000 JGC 4.0! It was last Saturday, and was the last 5 Qt jug at WM... What filter do you use? I got a Motorcraft FL-400S. I am sure either one would work for you, I have a few small leaks, so went to HM oils a while ago. I have about 130,000...

    QS DEFY USERS

I have it in my 2000 Jeep GC, 4.0 with about 125K miles. I will not be using it again, and go back to Maxlife or Mobile 1 HM. The reason is that the properties of Defy seemed to wear out quickly. i.e. the leaks started up after about 3,000 miles, and the engine tick is back. When new the oil...

2001 Jeep Cherokee Defy or Maxlife?

I have a 2000 JGC with the 4.0 and used MaxLife 10W30 Last year. This year I just started using Defy 5W30 about 3 weeks ago. So far the Jeep loves it. It stopped the start up rattle it had for a minute or 2. I am getting the same mileage as with the MaxLife, about 22 mpg on Hwy at 70mph. The...

    Any hardcore Valvoline users here?

I recently used MaxLife 10W30 in my Jeep 4.0, which has some small leaks/drips, and after about a month I am very impressed. The drips stopped, and it runs very smoothly. This engine has been on full all-synth oils since the first change to Mobil 1. I have used Pennzoil, QS and Mobil-1 mostly...

B&G intek 19 hp 2 years on factory fill

My daughter's Father-in-law NEVER changed the oil in his riding mowers! He had one Toro that lasted 19 years - never changed the oil once, just added as it went low. He sold it to a neighbor and it blew up in less than 1 year... He has a nice John Deer now - same treatment... VW

    Oil Suggestion- 2000 Jeep Cherokee

I also have a 2000 JGC with the 4.0 and have been using PP 10W30. I have had great results with this oil, and a Purolator PureOne filter. I used Mobil 1 for several years when it was new, and the PP has cleaned up most of the M1 discoloration (brown) in the valve cover. VW

    Jeep with black oil

I have a 2000 Jeep GC with the I6, and it USED to turn black really fast. Here's what I did: I was using Synth. 10W30 oils, Mobil1 and QS mostly, various brands, it still turned black quickly every change. I added some MM Oil, about a quart,(it was about 1/2 qt low at the time) ran it about 500...

    New to me '01 F150 4.6L - 5W-20?

Gary, I forgot to update my profile, I have been in FL for 9 months... I think I'll go with PP 5W30, the engine could use cleaning. The owner's manual and Oil cap both state 5W-20, maybe it was the first year for the thinner oil? Thanks, All!

    New to me '01 F150 4.6L - 5W-20?

I also wanted to add that most trips are short, 5 -10 miles, and I am in FL, in the 90's all summer... I am looking for ideas on viscosity 5W20 vs 5W30... Thanks, VW

    New to me '01 F150 4.6L - 5W-20?

I recently got an '01 F150 with about 110K miles. It has a few wet spots on engine, but no drips. Prev. owner used 10W30 dino with 3K OCI. I plan to use PP 5W30 or 5W20 (on oil fill cap) to clean it up. Thoughts?
