    Ouch

I have always noticed that Castrol tends to be more pricey than most other conventionals as well as group 3 synthetics. As most of you know there are other oils out there that are at least equal to castrol in quality and cost less (PYB, VWB). Mobil Super is looking better and better bc of its...

    Declining DIY Market

I have always changed my own oil in my cars for many of the same reasons mentioned here: knowing it is done right, using my favorite oil and filter each bought on some kind of deal, observing the engine from below, and of course greasing the grease fittings. The DIYer knows its been done right...

    Post your latest oil change

Today I changed the oil in a 94 Dakota V-6: Drained out 10W-30 Valvoline dino overnight and replaced the next day (today) with Valvoline HD30. Wix 51085 oil filter. Had 5 months on old oil and about 4k. Engine has 236k on it; the engine has had regular dino oil changes all its life. I usually...

    Oil Change hot or cold?

I agree with riverrat: I prefer to drain mine hot and leave the drain plug out overnight.

    2009 Tacoma Q's

On my son's 2007 V6 Tacoma 4x4 with the 1GR-FE engine we ran original oil for 3k. Have been using Synpower 10W-30 ever since with no complaints. 5k intervals. UOA showed a TBN of 2.1 after 4500 miles over 90 days at 25k. I thought this was low. Seems like the 1GR-FE engine was kinda hard on the...

    Average OCI for those here?

My OCI for the 3.0l T-100 with 10w-30 Synpower runs from 5 to 6k over 3-4 months. TBN at 4900 miles at 3 months interval was 3.6. I could go to 6k easily. I don't drive it hard. For my 94 V-6 Dakota pickup, I run 10W-30 Valvoline conventional and change at 4k over 3 to 4 months. No UOA yet. It...

    Best Conventional Oil?

My Dad always used and preferred Valvoline in all of his cars for many years. Little surprise that that is my oil preference as well. I have used 10W-30 and HD30 Valvoline dinos for over 20 years. No lubrication problems at all. Today I run 10W-30 SynPower in my T-100 V6 and a 2007 Tacoma V6...

    Valvoline Synpower or Pennzoil Platinuim?

I've been using Valvoline SynPower 10W-30 in my 94 Toyota T-100 V-6 for about 100K (present mileage is 238k)with zero problems. My dad used Valvoline oil for years with no lubrication problems. In my opinion Valvoline makes an excellent oil. I have no experience with Pennzoil.

Dexcool - what is the verdict?

I have a 1994 Toyota T-100 with 235k on it. I have done all oil changes and radiator flushes myself and on schedule (5k OCI; 24 months on radiator flushes). Been using DexCool for about 4 years unaware of the potential problems until I started reading these forums and other websites. Funny, I...
