    Exhaust repair ideas

I'm going to try your suggestion, thanks. Do you have any tips for getting that flange apart? I assume hit it with heat first and punch out the bolts, then maybe grind them if that doesn't work.

    Exhaust repair ideas

I lived in CA when I created this account a long time ago, I now live in Northern Colorado. I'm sure I can find a shop to do this for under $100 but that's not the issue. I'll gladly spend a few hours to help out a young person, use my garage and tools, and spend only a few bucks on parts. I'm...

    Exhaust repair ideas

It's going on jack stands. That's a good point. What does "FLAPS" stand for? I do know how to weld but I really don't need a welder as it would be something extra cluttering my garage. A cheap one from Harbor Freight is about $100 but it's suitable for exhaust, so I could buy something...

    Exhaust repair ideas

Ok, I haven't actually tried to remove the bolts on the flange but it looks like a PITA and maybe I was trying to convince myself that there's an easier way out. The wider spot spot away from the patch is 2 1/4" OD and then the tapered pipe behind it is 2" OD. If I can remove the bolts and get...

    Exhaust repair ideas

Hi everyone, I have a 1995 Acura Integra exhaust that I want to fix for a friend and as cheap as possible. It was was previously patched but that failed, see below picture. The problem I'm having is that the break is at the Cat and I don't have a lot on one end to work with. The triangle flange...

    Volvo turbo reliability?

Thank you all for the great input and information. I understand that you must be more diligent to maintain a turbo, paying special attention to lubrication. What I'm also hearing is that it's difficult to generalize - neglect may play as much a role as the design. Here's where my concern comes...

    Volvo turbo reliability?

I’m considering a 2005 Volvo S60 and have seen turbo and NA models available. I test drove a turbo S60 and it was nice but haven’t yet had a chance to drive a NA model. Anyways, I’m not exactly sure how a turbo works, but doesn’t it produce more pressure inside the engine? Is reliability much...

How much time does synthetic oil last?

Thanks for the quick reply - I was just going to add that I live in Southern California and weather conditions are quite optimal for such things - I appreciate it. I just keep hearing my Dad warning me in my head.

How much time does synthetic oil last?

My question might not seem appropriate here, but I need a quick answer and I know the members here know their stuff. I’m posting in the most active thread. I did my last oil change (mobil 1) on my motorcycle about a year ago and have put maybe 100 miles on it since. My car is in the shop and I...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

-I think I misunderstood what you were trying to say about motorcycles, sorry. I can't compare a car to a cycle because they are just so different. -You misunderstood me that I think it's an advantage to be distracted in an AT. Just showing that you need to concentrate more on MT. But it...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

Ouch, you made a very good point. My point was that, having grown up in the North, most people will be just fine in an AT, it's not that bad. But it's easier to get through the snow and ice when you control the car with a MT, you're right - I'm wrong.

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

Win, you’re perfect. You just single handedly put to bed the whole argument that there is some kind some kind of Zen Oneness, skill, or years of experience required to master the art of pushing levers. The synchronizers do the actual shifting. So, if someone is such a skilled driver because an...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

Where do you get your information man? They want to phase out MT to simplify inventory? Like they already have so much trouble keeping track of the millions of pieces of inventory it takes to build a car that phasing out the MT is going to help keep things organized? I’ll say it again: If a...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

Why are you going so fast downhill that you warp or glaze the disks? Learn the basics of how to drive safely without hurting other people around you; drive cautiously, use your brakes, and replace your pads when they wear out. By citing this as an advantage for AT, you just reinforced my...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

Stop right there pal – I don’t troll around trying to stir things up. I may be provocative with my opinions, but I value the opinions on this board especially. This is one of the few boards around with really good information and intelligent members. I may have to change my user ID the next...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

Boy did I get blasted for my post as one of the few AT supporters, however, the arguments for AT are no less harsh than the arguments for MT. Going back to the original post, it looks like the proponents for AT don't seem to care one way or the other, while those in the MT camp seem to be more...

    Manual transmission "snobs"?

A slight nuance that's beneath consideration. You can curl-up and worry about the off chance your car is stolen, you get hit by a tree, or an anvil falls from the sky. Or you can get insurance and take some security measures and go on with your life. I'll be moving on in premium AT comfort...
