Seeking cellphone forum site. Why no antennas?

Apparently they value saving the small additional cost of an extendable antenna over the rare need to pull it out. When making emergency medical deliveries inside some hospitals, I must fully extend the Motorola E815 antenna to get enough signal. Can't they make an extendable antenna which can...

Never let firetruck diesel fuel run out! Why?

We have never had a truck run out of fuel, but with all the distractions and unexpected events, I can see something like that happening. Would be terrible to have such expensive repairs result. He said OVER $5,000. Purging air should not be that expensive. We always try to keep sufficient fuel...

Never let firetruck diesel fuel run out! Why?

Firetruck just arrived so have not even learned what kind of engine. Hopefully we'll never run out of fuel. But a fire truck pumping at scene COULD eventually run out. Then we have all this damage. What damages? I'd like to install an extra tank which will automatically open and alarm if the...

Seeking cellphone forum site. Why no antennas?

Go fork yourself, morbid:) Of course the FCC allows no modification. Any non-engineered modification is likely to degrade performance, anyway. We rush medical items to hospitals in emergencies. In some hospitals, I pull out the E815 antenna to get a better signal. But if we "up grade" to a...

Never let firetruck diesel fuel run out! Why?

So what happens that places the truck out of service and is so costly to fix? Could it be that the fuel tank pump overheats because the engine is still running until the engine is turned off. I think $5,000+ was cost of damage. But what gets damaged? Thank you,

going to put my dog down soon.

I shall go find your plaque as I donate a bird cage to Denver Dumb Friend's League. We adopted a used toy poodle from them. PS. I want my ashes scattered in the mountains, too. Robert

Seeking cellphone forum site. Why no antennas?

New cell phones have internal antennas. In weak signal strength areas I want to extend my antenna. Our Motorola E815 has an extendable antenna but new cell phones do not. What does one do when in weak signal areas? Thank you

Never let firetruck diesel fuel run out! Why?

Sorry that I don't know. This is a new truck. Are new injection pumps lubed by the fuel?

Never let firetruck diesel fuel run out! Why?

Didn't have a chance. Said there will be costly damage if we ever let the fuel run out. This new firetruck even has low fuel warning alarm!

going to put my dog down soon.

So sorry. Our hearts go out to you. Rejoice that Weiner had so many wonderful years with you. Now put her gently, lovingly to sleep. So many animals do not have that fortune. (We can't even put ourselves to sleep when needed!) And in her honor, adopt another dog needing your love. Until you two...

Never let firetruck diesel fuel run out! Why?

Was told it would co$t thousand$ if we let diesel fuel run dry. Why? What is damaged? Tank fuel pump? Thank you,

Vibration, now squeak, front wheel Expedition 116K

You are correct! Front drive shaft rear U-joint. I removed the front drive shaft and will replace the U-joint as I have time. Better gas mileage now? Should I also replace the forward U-joint? Thank you,

Vibration, now squeak, front wheel Expedition 116K

Uh-oh. Can I remove that wheel driveshaft for the time being, or is that a complicated anti-productive mess? Is the U-joint inside the rubber boot I was able to notice? (Haven't had chance or space to get a good look at anything.)(Ford guy says that drive shaft should not turn if not in 4WD.)...

Vibration, now squeak, front wheel Expedition 116K

Thank you both. I meant wheel driveshaft U-joint or something. But now think it may be wheel bearing. Will try to check it ASAP when another volunteer is available to use his vehicle. Will report to you what it is. Thanks,

Vibration, now squeak, front wheel Expedition 116K

1999 Expedition, 4WD, 4.8L V-8, Medical Emergency Vehicle. Left front wheel vibration and now slight squeak in time with rolling speed. Coasting in neutral, vibration remains unchanged though engine RPM drops to idle. At walking-speed I can hear a small knock (maybe three for every 360 of the...

    Oil Overfilled!

Incredible. A terrible idea and I can't see how that could work. Think of the extra oil weight and resistance against the bottoms of all the pistons. That must have created tremendous drag and internal pressures. There must have been room and air pockets which absorbed expansion. Are you sure...

    Oil Overfilled!

Good point! Another reason I always keep my oil at the top fill line. But I will never start a cold engine to warm it for oil or transmission fluid level checks, or to warm the vehicle for my own comfort. I check after driving somehwere. I know people who will start a cold engine, drive to a...

    Oil Overfilled!

Check oil cold. Don't start a cold engine (every start causes wear) waste gas and pollute the air getting a cold engine to operating temperature just to check the oil. If you must check hot, wait until you drive somewhere, then check it several minutes after engine stop to allow the oil to...

possible science behind fuel line magnets?

My chemical engineer friend says this is all myth. Magnetic fields have absolutely NO effect on fuels or oils. Any molecular influences would be so minute there would be no alteration in characteristics. A magnetic trap could pull ferrous metals out of slowly moving solution, that's all.
