    Darlington Nuclear - Open house

Very interesting. Good pics. They rarely have open house events at nuclear facilities around my way. I didn't know they were still considering an expansion of the Darlington Plant.

    Cam2 oil? Wolfshead?

The place I work at sells Cam 2 and they use it in the delivery trucks. They never had any problems with it and these trucks get beat on, with OCIs often exceeding 5,000 miles. Most of them have well over 200,000 miles and still going. For what its worth, Cam 2's "regular" grade oils are...

I believe TRW is OE on some European cars so I'd say they're good.

    Saturn DOHC 3.0L Engine - what's recommended?

Theres no problem with your oil sitting in your truck overnight. It's just harder to pour when it's cold. As for the drain plug, you don't need to go to the dealer, just go to an auto parts store. There you can get one with a standard "hex" head instead of the torx head. For your oil, the...

    (!) Warning light

Some vehicles with an electronic tire pressure monitoring system need to be reset anytime tire pressure is adjusted. Check the owner's manual or contact the dealer on how to reset the light. As for the brakes, I don't believe the scooter is heavy enough to affect brake wear. Check the caliper...

    Brake upgrade for Buick PA?

Cheap ceramic pads are usually regular semi-metallic pads with a small amount of ceramic added just so they can be marketed as "ceramic". In addition to the Akebono pads mentioned by Critic, Monroe claims their pads to be "true" ceramic.

Oil Related Failures? Anyone Know of Any?

There was a problem back in the early 1980's with Quaker State oil gelling up under certain weather/temperature conditions (no,this isn't the wax myth). It was from crystalization of the oil due to a problem with the VI improver. For more information on this, see Tom NJ's post from 10/20/06 on...

My VW 1.8T Timing Belt Job - Progress Report

As for marking the direction of the belt, I believe that it is only necessary if the old belt is being re-used, which doesn't seem to be an issue here.

    Engine coolant...OEM or aftermarket?

Not sure what Ford was using in 2000, which was around the time of the changeover from regular to long-life coolant. If the coolant in the truck is green it is regular, and you can top it up with any standard off the shelf coolant. If it is yellow, it is the long-life coolant and should be...

    What has happend to raybestos?

To answer the question "What has happened to Raybestos?" They have been sold. They used to be owned by Dana, who sold off their aftermarket businesses. The new owners (Affinia) inplemented many cost-cutting measures including closing many North American manufacturing facilities and moving...

    Passat 2.8L V6 eats 5W-30 like it's nothing!

They probably won't have the right oil at Walmart. The only 5W-40 they carry (at least around my way) is Rotella which is not VW 502.00 approved. You will probably have to go to an auto parts store to get the proper oil and even they might have to order it. Also check the PCV system as...

    GulfPride Motor Oil

The only places I have ever seen GulfPride motor oil was at Cumberland Farms convenience stores and PathMark supermarkets. It was pricey at both places at over $3.00 a quart. It was made by the American Refining Group but, I have no idea how it is performance-wise.

    Monroe Brake Pads ???

I installed Monroe brake pads on my dad's Explorer a few months ago and so far, so good. They broke in nicely and are quiet as a mouse. They seem to be very good pads and I'm surprised you don't hear more about them.

    Mitsubishi Outlander (03) Serp Belt

First of all, make sure nothing is leaking on the belt to make it squeak. I recently had an experience like this with my work truck; turns out it had a bad radiator hose. As for the routing of the belt, most vehicles have a diagram under the hood. Also, Goodyear belts have a diagram on the...

    Which Water Pump to buy?

I recently went on a wild goose chase trying to find an American made water pump for a Ford truck I recently worked on. I finally got an ASC water pump which was assembled in USA "of domestic and imported parts". ASC and Airtex are the only pumps I know of which are assembled in America (I...
