The wipe-off method seems like it would work fine as well, the special tool is basically just a squeegee. Not sure what the special ingredient is in the langka kit, just some kind of paint softener...only affects the fresh paint in the chip, not the baked on color coat of the car...so your DIY...

I have used Langka in the past...you fill the chip with OEM touchup paint, let it dry for about 1 day, then use the langka chemical to buff down the paint blob. Worked great on my Z3, VW's, and Acuras! A deep chip might take two "tries" to fill completely, then a little "3M perfect-it" and wax...

I've used Back to black on exterior trim before and it's pretty good, although I like Vinylex and 303 better.

303 works great on the trim and on the dash, nice matte look, no "ghetto sheen" lol.

I used Royal Purple Syncromesh to replace the MTF-LT-1 in a previous car, it provided much improved shifting.

I use Meguiars products...Gold Class for top coat, Scratch-X and Deep Crystal System Polish for pre-wax polish and scratch removal, Clay bar and Quik Detailer for deposit removal and paint cleaning. I do everythign by hand, although I want to get a PC orbital to speed things up. The Meguiars...

Good to know, Does the Ranger have a vertical filter? My Tribute does. I think there are some variations between the 2.3 Ranger motor and the 2.3 in the Tribute (Transverse vs. Longitudinal layout, maybe more stuff?). Are your factory OCI's 5k/7.5k miles?
