Is the recommended 0-20 bad for engine life?

Too early to know yet, I only made the switch in January. Maybe 8-12 tanks in the Ford and 4-5 tanks in the Mazda. Smoothness/vibration is about the same, but I think they might both be a little quieter... maybe. I had Amsoil AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR oil in the Mazda transmission over the winter and...

Is the recommended 0-20 bad for engine life?

All I know is that my 2007 Mazda 6 (which has 150,000 miles) and my 2011 Ford Focus (only has 65,000 miles) have both lived their entire lives on 0 and 5W-20, and neither of them burn or leak any oil. The Mazda's body will definitely disappear before it's engine starts burning oil. I have...

No, I have no interest in censoring anything. I'm just pointing out the contradiction.

Ever had a engine or Transmission failure?

The automatic transmission in my wife's 1988 Nissan Sentra gave up the ghost 230 km from home. My 1999 VW Passat came to a distressing end when the timing belt snapped, 35km from home.

It's interesting that you gave 930.engineering a (y) when he replied to my comment, and then you proceeded to support comment. Questions are just questions, there is no need for us to censor discussion about motor oil.

Is the recommended 0-20 bad for engine life?

Technology and science change, there is no such thing as settled science. The 0/5W-20 of today is not the same lubricant that was first introduced 20 years ago... and the technology is changing constantly. Cheers

    Mixing 0W-30 and 10W-30 to get 5W-30?

    Boring replies. Cheers

    Current consensus on PUP?

I periodically second guess myself when I see people going on about dexos approvals. If you must use a dexos oil for warranty purposes it makes sense. Other than fuel economy or maybe cheap LSPI protection, I don't understand why people choose a dexos oil over something that meets more...

    M1 vs Kirkland!

I was gonna explain, but then I thought, nah.;) Cheers

    M1 vs Kirkland!

This is simultaneously funny and disturbing... I don't understand the statement, but thank you for keeping this thread interesting. 🤪

Is there an oil that's better for long time based changes?

Blackstone says time doesn't really matter. Lake Speed 2 says change the oil after a year. I'm sure there are 10,000 other experts that will give opinions that occupy every spot on the spectrum between those two schools of thought. Lake Spreed Jr. also says don't start the car when it's in...

What one oil would you pick if only one could be had?

I'll look and see if I have any kicking around my basement... I haven't checked behind my furnace.

What one oil would you pick if only one could be had?

Good stuff, I just don't think I would use it as my "one and done" oil. Doesn't meet enough approvals for me. The best sale price I've ever seen for the Kirkland oil is $4.23 CDN/litre. I've discovered that I can buy Pennzoil Euro LX 0W-30 for about $5.50 CDN, twice a year at Canadian Tire...
