Thoughts on GC in an 06 4.6 rwd Northstar?

Thoughts on GC in an 06 4.6 rwd Northstar?

If you're curious, the oil Cadillac calls is anything that is both 5w30 and GM4718M. They specifically warn against using "10w40 or 20w50 or any other viscosity grade oil not recommended"

Thoughts on GC in an 06 4.6 rwd Northstar?

I'm considering departing from the factory spec for two reasons: 1) I think a thicker 30 weight like GC offers more protection than an average to thin 30 weight like M1 5w30, while still staying within the spirit of the factory 5w30 weight recommendation. Further, GC's additive package has...

Thoughts on GC in an 06 4.6 rwd Northstar?

Partly for the sake of simplicity since I like to run the same oil all the cars, partly because I'm convinced it's an excellent oil, I'd like to run Castrol Syntec 0w30 "GC" in an 06 Cadillac SRX with the 4.6L Northstar. This is the LH2 rear wheel drive / all wheel drive Northstar variant, used...

What would you use for Esso 71141 replacement

I'm using Pentosin ATF 1 in my Esso LT 71141 application. No problems, had it in for 10K miles. On price, it was about halfway between the Audi/VW parts counter stuff (at the high end), and the Castrol Import Multivehicle (at the low end).

Oil and lube for BMW 740

M1Accord, Don't fear the E32 7 (the 88-94), or even the E38 7 (95-01). But spend at least 6 months doing research before you buy. Going into it blind is what causes most bad ownership experiences with these cars. Test drive a lot of them to get a good feel for what a good one is. And shop for a...

Prestone Coolant Flush? Possible ATF in Coolant

Well, don't know if I'll be tasting it But matching your description up with Prestone's description of the two cleaning products, it looks like Super Radiator Flush is the one I need - either that, or half a bottle of Dawn dish soap + distilled water run for a few hours :-) I think I will go...

Prestone Coolant Flush? Possible ATF in Coolant

It's not specifically to flush oil from the cooling system, but the Prestone Super Radiator Flush claims this: And the Super Radiator Cleaner claims this: Super Radiator Flush mentions oily resitue by name (which I would think is what traces of ATF would leave in the cooling system) but...

Prestone Coolant Flush? Possible ATF in Coolant

I have a possible Dexron III ATF in my DexCool coolant situation. This is Dexron III ATF that is in the power steering system. The coolant on the dipstick in the overflow tank looks normal (hard to say since Dexcool and Dexron III are both red), but the Dexron III in the power steering fluid...

Is ELF Excellium better than GC?

I've always felt like half of that (not the MPG increase) happens to my cars right after every oil change, no matter what oil is used. I had written it off to placebo effect (you just did something, so you're expecting to feel something different) or an actual but slight reduction in friction...

    no GC at autozone...

I'll see if I can get back by there this week, can probably to it Sat morning - I would like to get to the bottom of this too - whether it's "Sell Through" everywhere, or just regionally, or just at individual stores(since there are store to store differences in what oils they carry - the one...

    no GC at autozone...

I picked up 3 quarts of M06 to even out my stash to 30qt - 27 green and 3 gold. Enough for 3 BMW changes and 1 Camaro change - should get me through at least a year. My normal AutoZone was out of 0-30, save for 2 old bottles of the American made stuff. I tried another AZ nearby that has a much...

Jeep Grand Cherokee - RP 75w140 gear oil

good thing I went with the heavier of the two weights recommended in the owners manual - because once I got under the truck today, lo and behold there was a metal tab with "75w140 Syn" stamped on it. Only problem I encountered with the RP so far is that the bottle opening was just a touch...

Jeep Grand Cherokee - RP 75w140 gear oil

Good to hear! Going with a heavier oil in an attempt to cover up noise, given that gas mileage isn't a concern, we don't get really cold temps, and it's one of the recommended grades.

Jeep Grand Cherokee - RP 75w140 gear oil

I'm about to do a rear differential fluid change on a 99 Grand Cherokee 2wd I6 with 78K miles. Pretty sure I'm going to go with Royal Purple 75w140, which is on the heavier end of the recommended weights. Picked it because I wanted an over the counter, 75w140, synthetic, with the limited slip...
