i want to make my own underbody rustproofer using engine oil as a base. this is because: a]this gm metal in an 83 blazer rots faster than a cheetah runs b]i have a load of new oil no one knows if still ok as on shelf for years. thanks in advance-steve

so if my oil light stays on a couple of seconds on a first cold start i should not try a thicker synthetic oil? its fine the rest of the day. here its 0c-25c outside temp. but how thin can i go on a 1983 air cooled 2.0 cu vw bus? 5W? 0W? will any oil additives protect it on initial startup...

used it in 1995 2.4d vw t4. stopped minor regular coolant loss for at least one month. sold it still ok. probably was gettin past head gasket done 2 years ago or cracks in head notorous in these.no external signs of of leak before treatment. worth the money. other older tech stuff original...

metal has a memory when stamped out. also try boiling water on a frosty day. or those rubber sucker things wetted or with vaseline on them to pull it. dents with creases difficult. if just pushed in with no obvious sharp impact point pop out ok often.

how long can new unused car and van engine oil last for? does it even have a shelf life? it it the same for synthetic and conventional oil? why isnt one indicated on the packaging ever? so they arent sure about it then?!
