I have to go with my 2005 22 inch craftsman self-propelled mower with a 6.75hp Briggs. I've put this thing through hell over close to 20 mowing seasons and it still runs like a top and starts on the first pull.
I'll have to take a look. I ordered bearings a couple of summers ago. But, I ordered the wrong size and haven't revisited the idea since. If I could get bearings on the front end, I'd be a lot happier.
I've got the exact same mower. I really wish the wheels could be upgraded to actual bearings instead of those plastic sleeves and cheapo grease zirks that strip out the first time you grease them.
I've got a 1994 MTD snowblower (made in Ohio) with a 10hp Tecumseh that has held up remarkably, considering its been through nearly 30 years of South Dakota winters.
Times have changed. MTD used to be a great company, when they still made their products in Ohio. There are plenty of old MTD's still out there but their new products are Chinese trash.
I put a really sharp edge on a set of my mulching blades last year out of curiosity. They really did well with the thick, wet spring grass but definitely dulled fast.
I used to buy new blades when mine got dull. Last year, I bought a Worksharp Ken Onion sharpener for my pocket knives and kitchen knives. I use it for sharpening mower blades as well. Quick and easy and I get good results.
