The VCM system is known to cause significant fuel dilution in these vehicles. Ask yourself why the computer is set for 5k mile oci’s when most newer cars are 10k-15k mile oci’s. By using a 30wt you are giving yourself a cushion as the oil becomes thinner due to fuel dilution. Starting with a...
I tried to use Gokhan’s A_Harman calculator on Google spreadsheet for Delvac Esp 5w-40 but don’t know what I’m doing wrong won’t let me enter values. Anyways was trying to do that oil compared to Delvac extreme 10w-30. I have BMW X5 35d diesel. Ran the Pennzoil Euro L 5w-30 for 30k miles but it...
It’s a decent oil nothing special it’s a Group 3 so yes it’s overpriced for what it is. There’s a lot better 5w-40’s on the market that are mostly group IV for the same price.
My BMW X5 Diesel calls for .6% low saps oil and a 5w-30 weight. Almost every other diesel on the market requires a .8% low saps oil with similar emissions equipment. I burn some of the 5w-30 during a 7500 mile oci. I’m using Mobil delvac 5w-40 esp now with .8% and I burn no oil. Even though it’s...
I emailed the company years ago when I started using 2009. It’s largest particle is 10 times smaller that the pores on an oil filter. None gets filtered out.
Let’s back up here. Mos2 is not “inferior“ to MoDTC quite the opposite actually. Mos2 is created by MoDTC when the MoDTC is exposed to heat and friction. This formulation of Mos2 is what actually reduces the friction. So why just skip the whole MoDTC step and add Mos2 directly.
BOV (base oil viscosity) is indeed thicker with a 5w-20 than a 0w-20. 5w-20 oils have less VII and lower noack as well. Look at Gokhan’s work with A_Harman index. 5w-20 oils are superior to 0w-20 👍
If that Castrol variety is made in Europe then go for that one all day long. Group IV oils need less viscosity improvers and are more stable than hydrocracked group iii’s like Mobil 1. I know the 0w-30 and the 0w-40 are all group IV’s.
OK we will compare the 10w30's because maxlife syn doesn't come in 10w40.
Mobil 10w30hm: $4.20 quart (wallymart), -54 pour point = PAO base stock which is much more expensive to produce just like german castrol and it even smells similar, 100ppm moly, 200ppm boron(boron is the best EP agent...
Here we go...I emailed the company about the size of the mos2 particles:
thank you very much for your mail, dtd. 28th July 2010 and for your interest in Lubro Moly products.
The size of the MoS2 particles is between 0,2 and 0,5 µm. A pore of an oil filter has normal a size of 35 µm and so more...
M1 10w30hm has the lowest pour point of the entire M1 line at -54. Its suspected to be mostly pao, has a hths of 3.66 and on top of that has about 100ppm moly, 200ppm boron and 1000ppm phos or SL levels. Talk about kick arse. Compare that to GC which similarly has an hths of 3.7 but no moly or...
Was trying to figure out if the insolubles of .9% which is roughly 9000 ppm were included in the 4365 ppm measurement so I called blackstone and talked to a lab tech. They said that to read ppm it has to be soluble in there so the 4365 ppm is dissolved and the .9% is anything larger. Even though...
