Yea seems to be a paper media. Rolled up like a donaldson powercore air filter! I replaced it with a baldwin which looks to be a conventional design

An interesting design, new to me! The fine screen filter at the bottom was rattling around when I removed the filter.

since I always cut open my filters, champ labs filters tear at the glue as well. This is a John Deere branded filter.

The coalescing media of the Donaldson and other filters like Racor are far superior and also have the addition of a secondary filter. Considering all the issues with CP4.2 pumps I'd want to run the better filter. Moreover, the Donaldson filter is sealed to the end cap and o-ring fit to the base...
