All this is fine and dandy but I fail to see how it helps answer the question as to why the owners manual for 2019-2024 US config Alfa QV specifies C3 when US dealers continue to provide only Pennzoil A3/B4. Pennzoil was always the dealer fill from the first year of the QV so I can believe the...

    AMSOIL Euro 5W-40 MS

Is that what’s in the Australia owners manual?

    AMSOIL Euro 5W-40 MS

Though very unlikely since this sticker appears under the hood of every QV.

    AMSOIL Euro 5W-40 MS

Confusing for sure. My assumption that the factory-fill is C3 may be totally wrong. For all we know, the factory may have a stash of Pennzoil or the equivalent Shell just for US bound QVs.

So if Alfa wanted full-SAPS for the US market, why is the factory-fill for US cars still C3?

No need to import. Buy from Alfissimo in California. https://shop.alfissimo.com/home/1890-29l-oil-change-kit-selenia.html

Play it safe, forget about price. Stick with the Selenia.

I think the Liqui Moly label is deceptive marketing at best and criminal at worst. It makes a mockery of ACEA. If I’m wrong, then someone please put me right. H2 is Fiat’s spec for high performance with high kinematic viscosity. Its 100 deg spec is over 15. Selenia Star is the prime A3 example...

    That can’t be right. C3 spec for SA is < or = 0.8. A3 Spec for SA is > or = 1.0 and < or = 1.6. Both requirements cannot be simultaneously satisfied. GH2 is a mid-SAPS (C3) version of H2 which is A3.

Ravenol VST is ACEA A3/B4. It seemingly cannot be also GH2 since that spec ties 5w-40 to C3. My head is spinning.

That doesn’t seem to make sense. SA for C3 is spec’d as less than or equal to 0.8, whereas SA for A3 is spec’d as greater than or equal to 1.0 but less than or equal to 1.6. These ranges are obviously mutually exclusive.

    Low-SAPS, Mid-SAPS, Full-SAPS

Thanks. I actually meant what level of SA defines the low, mid and full categories.

    Low-SAPS, Mid-SAPS, Full-SAPS

I know that 800 ppm is universally deemed as mid-SAPS as part of the ACEA C3 spec, but what are the ppm ranges that generally define these categories? For example, if a mid-SAPS oil is, say, 1100 ppm, is it still considered mid or is that in the full range, and when does full transition to high...

Does the sulfated ash (SA) level really matter for intake-valve deposits (IVD)?

Yes I understand that but is it known how much oil can be consumed before any cat impairment is observed?
