'03 Dodge Ram, '02 Durango, both with 4.7L engine

I get the M1 HM at either Walmart or Autozone. Another one that has worked well on that lifter tick is Lucas 10/30. Although the Lucas is not highly thought of on this site so not sure what to make of that.

Why are redline, motul -- group V oils great

Hi Doug - you seem to be the M1 guru. I had been using M1 10/30 HM in a 00 Jeep 4.7. I liked the HM for boosted additive levels, cleaning, high HTHS, etc. Recently I've gone back to the regular M1 10/30 syn. found a bunch on sale and stocked up. I change between 3-5k miles and use Bosch or Wix...

'03 Dodge Ram, '02 Durango, both with 4.7L engine

Fuelman - I have that 4.7 in a 00 Jeep GC. FWIW - I have found that Mobil 1 10/30 High Mileage Syn or M1 0/40 quiet lifter tick in mine. It has the lifter tick with regular M1 syn, Synpower, even PP so go figure - temperamental lifters I guess. It's been a great motor though. 110k trouble free...

    sludge the bigger threat

Used to be that engine wear protection was what the oil brands seemed to focus on but now we hear a lot of marketing buzz talking about sludge as the main threat to engine longevity. Mobil 1 even claims that their HM synthetics clean sludge....I was always taught that oil, even synthetic...

    M1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

not stellar mileage but after the K&N and magnaflow along with a throttle body spacer it picked up a couple mpg...averages about 18 a gallon less than 1/2 driving is highway.

    M1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

thanks for the feedback John it seems to really like the stuff so far. I really like the idea of having an all season oil that flows 0w freely at startup but ranges all the way up to the 40 for good hi temp control. I've been real impressed with the 4.7 so far. Owned it almost 4yrs. 90k...

    M1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

thanks for the advice this site is a great resource. My buddy at the benz dealership said he thought it would be a good one - given all the certs ACEA 3 and all that but that I should verify that. Jeep dealer mechanics pretty much stick to a 5w30 dino and nothing else line.

    M1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

manual states either 5w30 or 10w30. I haven't deviated from that yet in 90k miles. I installed the 0w40 without really thinking much about it and did notice that the engine temps are lower - at least on the gauge in the dash however accurate that is.

    M1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

I hear you I'm lazy so going 10k shouldn't be a problem :-) I had been using M1 HM synthetic 10w30 in the Jeep would you say 0w40 is on par with that one?

    M1 0w40 for Jeep 4.7

Hello - I got a bunch of free M1 0w40 from a buddy at a benz dealership. Would this oil a good one at about 5k OCI in a 00 Grand Cherokee 4.7? Thanks in advance.

    Lucas Oil

Thanks! good to get info from a Saab guy. What grade Red Line would you run in an 03 9-5 Aero in high desert climate - Utah? winters average 20-30F summers can get over 100F.

    Lucas Oil

Thanks. I've heard good things about PP and Redline. I run redline 5/40 in a 00 4.7 grand cherokee and it seems to work excellent. what's confusing on my Saab is that I get conflicting opinions from Saab mechanics. One swears by only M1 for that car saying he sees to much turbo failure with...

    Lucas Oil

Just seeking the board's opinion on Lucas Oil. The motor oil not the stabilizer. I've run it in a Saab 9-5 Aero - a motor notoriously hard on oil. I was told it was a "true" synthetic and since it's roots were racing oil it would be a good option for a car with fuel dilution. Since then I've...
