ZF Lifeguard 8,VW Amarok, 8HP45 transmission

I used this oil- It's only available in AUS i believe. http://www.anglomoil.com/wp-content/uploads/AutoTransmission-Type-MV-Lo-Visc-2018-07-30.pdf luckily for me the amarok ZF uses an alloy pan and a replacable filter, so I'll replace that and drop another 5L of oil out. NB they hold 9L of...

ZF Lifeguard 8,VW Amarok, 8HP45 transmission

2014 VW Amarok, 225K kms. Ute has done a fair bit of towing, glad I changed the oil! It's supposed to be "lifetime fill" but this is most certainly not the case in this application. Trans holds 9L of oil but only 5 came out, (rest is in the torque converter) so I'm considering changing it...

2008 VW Golf GT Sport, 15000kms OCI (est)

Hi DNewton Yes it's a TDI, EA188 BMN engine code. 125kw diesel. This diesel is one lf the last PD TDIs and one of the first to have dpf, I'm not sure if that helps with soot? I must stress that I don't know how many Ks the oil had, I changed it at the Ks the sticker said and assumed one...

    DSG Fluid Change Question

In VWs instructions, getting the trans to 35-45 degrees (celcius)then allowing the overflow out of the drain level insert is the method recommended. Is this really necessary if the tolerance is +- 200ml?

3M headlight restoration kit before/after pics

In my experience these kits work well, but temporarily. If you want a lasting solution- clear coat them. Rub back all oxidation with a wet scotchbrite pad, allow to dry (will go very cloudy due to the abrasion) then clear coat (2 pack) and they'll last forever.

2002 Holden (Opel) Astra 1.8 DOHC

What do you drive Supercity? I use a really stout 5w40 bit it only comes in 20l. Meets a3b4 and LLO1 specs, $170ish for 20l

Less oil consumption due to PAO base?

Update: The Alglomoil GEO550 was fantastic, and required no top up over the OCI, it ran to 7200kms and used approximately 300ml (a sizable improvement). I'ts the first oil I've been happy to break my 5000km (3k miles) usual OCI. It's a pity its only sold in 20l drums and in my haste before...

Should I use heavier weight oil?

Don't be afraid of a thicker oil, try a xxW40 (xx being whatever number suite your min temp in your area) . Your veichle has so many miles that the bearing clearances will be looser than stock. Hddeo oils usually have fantastic add packs, rotella t6 or m1 TDT would work well, and have a high...

Are you running an xxW-40 ?

I use Anglomoil GEO550 5w40 in my turbo soarer, it's great. High calcium, zinc and 11tbn. Full synth and $45/5l ( when bought by the 20l) In my bike I have run delo 400 15w40, but may use Alglomoil roadmaster gold 15w50 next change (it's air cooled, xr500). Also have used the delo in fiiends...

Less oil consumption due to PAO base?

Update: with 3800kms now the level is about 2mm down the dip stick, so the consumption is markedly less than it has been on the last 4 ocis. The color on the dipstick is also much lighter than usual (I realise that's not a indication of much) but this phenomenon with the decreased consumption...

    info please

If your rebuilding it I'd just go thick and bide your time. It's a good opportunity to experiment with cleaning and valve deposits etc... I've heard of people running some diesel in the oil before they tear it down, just to clean it out before rebuild. Also ghetto style water injection to clean...
