I sell new Infiniti cars for a living and we provide the first 2 years of service for free with car purchase. We use mainly 10W-30 Castrol oil in bulk.
Your post is a testament for how good Castrol GTX really is! I like it and have used it off and on along with Chevron Supreme and Havoline. IMHO, there's no dino that would have stood a chance in the situation you are describing!
I used 10W-30 Mobil1 in my 01 Trooper but for the last year I've been using 5W/10W-30 Chevron Supreme with great results and oil consumption of 1/4qt per 3kmi. These trucks drink oil but with regular maintenance will easily break 200k+ miles.
FYI, you may also look at the 10W-30 Chevron Delo 400 (not the same as Chevron Supreme). My local Sam's Club has plenty of both oils at very reasonable prices.
I also change the ATF annually. I just buy a case of Dexron III from Sam's and do several drain/refills. The last time I used Pennzoil ATF and it is performing very well.
Glad to see more Trooper drivers onboard. I wouldn't worry about the oil consumption yet, it's normal for these engines. I used M1 10W-30 in my 2001 but for the last year I've been feeding it Chevron/Havoline 5W-30 or 10W-30 and oddly enough, the oil consumption has halved to about 1/2qt per...
I would not experiment with M1 that early in the engine life. I've had 5 Nissans (2 trucks, 2 Maximas/Infiniti and a Sentra) and have noticed increased oil consumption if you switch to synthetic before 10k. If I were you, I would use a high quality 5W/10W-30 (Chevron Supreme, Pennzoil or GTX)...
I wouldn't call the lab results comparable, the Fe and Pb readings are way off. I would trust Blackstone personally but could the error have come from the way the samples were taken? If you took the Blackstone sample early in the oil drain and the OG sample when the oil was just trickling, it's...
What can an oil do if too much dirt gets through a bad filter? Even the best oil will show wear, right? I would change the air filter, then do one more run with GC and compare the results.
