    Ford Excursion V-10 98k should I go 5w40?

    The manual and oil filler cap both state 5w30. It is a 2000 model year and perhaps the later versions moved to 5w20. I had an Expedition 5.4L which used 5w20. It did fine but I'm sure it's used to help the fuel economy. Just a guess.

    How about the trans fluid/filter change? Go with Mercon V as replacement for Mercon? Manual says absolutely no mixing of these two.

    Ford Excursion V-10 98k should I go 5w40?

    I currently use MotorCraft 10w30 synblend with PureOne filter in my V-10 Ex. with 98000 miles. I use it to tow my 8000 lb travel trailer and I was thinking of trying a full synthetic 5w40 due to towing. Too heavy? A better suggestion? What do you guys think?
