I’ve been buying Castrol Dexos at Walmart because it’s $4 a bottle cheaper than Walmart Dexos, which I used previously.

2014 Armada; 204,000 miles; whatever the dealer then later the quick lube puts in; 5-6 K miles. Absolutely no problems, no consumption, no leaks. Bought it new.

I’m using it and the ST filter in my 2018 Sierra 1500 5.3. It’s quality oil and a nice filter at a great price, and I don’t do extended change intervals because oil is too cheap and new is always better.

Companies are soooo risk-averse, that Hellman's will advise against mixing oil, water, vinegar, and eggs. They simply have to avoid any semblance of blame if something breaks, even if it isn't their fault (and it usually isn't).

I agree: there is no excuse for a timing chain which is properly designed to give this kind of trouble. It's not the oil's fault IMO.
