See if you can find the year of manufacture of your 425, early models have a plastic cam gear that will fail. Your dealer should be able to determine if your 425 was made after they switched to a metal gear. My neighbor has a 445 that the cam gear failed at about 700 hours.

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a o-ring on the drain plug of a GP. Changed the oil yesterday and it looks like there should be but there wasn't. For all the times I've changed the oil in the darn thing you would think I'd noticed it before. Oh... 3.8L V6

Stihl FS44, bought new in 1989. I have 5 acres so it gets used alot. Have always used Stihl mix oils. Started running badly 2 years ago. Bought a $9 carb rebuild kit. Starts on 2nd pull everytime again. Argueably the best OPE I've ever bought.

I know it's not something everyone thinks about, but if you have a truck or car that stores the spare tire so that it's exposed to the elements, don't forget to lube the assembly that drops the spare. I just spent over an hour trying to get my spare to drop on my 2500HD. Not fun...

I'm a Kubota guy but what I would look for is which tractor has the toughest looking frame. You can tell alot about the build quality by how stout the frame is.

I think you're right on the money. I usually see 80-100 over the ambient temp as well, more toward 100 higher if I'm towing in my 03 2500HD
